Guest guest
hello, I've been unable to find reference to epsom salts not being secreted into breast milk. If anyone has this reference, it would be appreciated. In the meantime, I would suggest looking in the group's FILE section for gentle cleansing ideas. gallstones/files/ and in the LINKS gallstones/links/Cleanses_001020034265/ ~S ---<krankedyann@b...> wrote: > Traci, > Why won't you do a cleanse while nursing? Guest guest
Anyone I have ever discussed this with said that so many toxins are released during the cleanse that it would be unsafe for the baby as it would be excreted through the milk. I'm not concerned about the epsoms, just the toxins releasing to fast into the baby. So I've got at least 7 more months of nursing my little one until I can cleanse, thankfully diet is controlling my attacks. -----Original Message----- From: gallstones [mailto:gallstones ] On Behalf Of Suzanne Sent: Saturday, July 16, 2005 12:02 PM gallstones Subject: Re: Epsom Salts Secreted in Breastmilk hello, I've been unable to find reference to epsom salts not being secreted into breast milk. Guest guest
Here's the information in a user-friendly format. Look under 'laxatives.' http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/aap-approved-meds.html The original document from the AAP is here http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics;108/3/776. I HIGHLY recommend any nursing mom print out the document and take it with them to doctor's appointments, as the majority of doctors think that any and all medications is an excuse to wean. If you'd like the specifics for any medication, including the studies/methodology behind it, I highly recommend the book " Medications and Mothers Milk " by Hale. Guest guest
Traci, There is a lot of misunderstanding about how breastmilk works. Many people assume anything and everything that goes into your body gets into your breastmilk, and that is not true. My understanding is that if your colon has been thoroughly cleansed, the absorption of any released toxins by the bloodstream through a gallbladder cleanse is minimal, and not all of them wind up in breastmilk. Then you're still dealing with bioavibility and absorption of what gets into your child's stomach, which is going to be even less than what you secrete. If you are truly concerned, I'd wait until your baby is on solids and take the olive oil/lemon juice after you have nursed him down during his longest sleeping session of the night. I'm sure at some point you will be advised to pump and dump if you decide to cleanse- this is also unnecessary, as toxins do not collect as milk is made- the concentrations of toxins in milk approximate the levels in your blood (breastmilk is often referred to as while blood, as the compositions are surprisingly similar), so you would only be wasting milk. I have a seven month old son, and am of the perpetually pregnant and nursing club- I nurse through pregnancies and tandem nurse. I do cleanses once my son has started solids, at around 6-7 months. I have never seen any effect on him. I would highly encourage you to consider his long-term health in not weaning him when he is one, and nursing longer than that. I really hate to see women wean their babies abruptly on or around their first birthday because the have to do a cleanse that in reality puts little to no toxins into their milk if their diet is good and their colon is clean. Guest guest
Well don't worry I won't be weaning my baby to do a cleanse, if I were like that I'd just do it now. I currently have 4 children and want as many as the Lord blesses us with. I too nurse while pregnant - my youngest 2 are 5 months and 17 months...just 12 months apart. I nursed my entire pregnancy...but when I went into the hospital to have our newest my 12 month old refused to nurse when I returned home. Well I tried and he bit me each time, he just refused to nurse anymore. I just plan to wait until my son weans himself (all of mine have done that on their own around 12 months but I'd be happy to nurse much longer if they wanted to - I've never weaned them, they've weaned themselves). I won't be pumping and dumping, but I also don't plan to cleanse right now. Now if it gets to the point that I am having attacks again I will cleanse....but I feel pretty confident that my healthy eating habits will get me through the next several months just fine. I was concerned in the beginning about the toxins and my newborn, but as my baby gets older I don't think I'd worry as much.
