Guest guest
If there is any nutritional help out there that has helped me with digestion and candida more than anything it has to be raw goat milk kefir YOgurt is good but more often than not people buy the stuff from the grocery store loaded with chemicals, gums and sugar, it ends up defeating the purpose here's some info I copied Both kefir and yogurt are cultured milk products... ...but they contain different types of beneficial bacteria. Yogurt contains transient beneficial bacteria that keep the digestive system clean and provide food for the friendly bacteria that reside there. But kefir can actually colonize the intestinal tract, a feat that yogurt cannot match. Kefir contains several major strains of friendly bacteria not commonly found in yogurt, Lactobacillus Caucasus, Leuconostoc, Acetobacter species, and Streptococcus species. It also contains beneficial yeasts, such as Saccharomyces kefir and Torula kefir, which dominate, control and eliminate destructive pathogenic yeasts in the body. They do so by penetrating the mucosal lining where unhealthy yeast and bacteria reside, forming a virtual SWAT team that housecleans and strengthens the intestines. Hence, the body becomes more efficient in resisting such pathogens as E. coli and intestinal parasites. Kefir's active yeast and bacteria provide more nutritive value than yogurt by helping digest the foods that you eat and by keeping the colon environment clean and healthy. Because the curd size of kefir is smaller than yogurt, it is also easier to digest, which makes it a particularly excellent, nutritious food for babies, invalids and the elderly, as well as a remedy for digestive disorders. --- __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I think is wise to follow her " body wisdom " in her choice of kefir over yogurt and goat over cow, but I do believe that the PROBIOTIC information is somewhat skewed and vastly oversimplified. If you love your GB and your digestive health, you need to take in the right kind of PROBIOTICS. No mammal can be healthy without them. Here's what I think is important to know: 1) ALL commercial (i.e. big dairy corporation) dairy products are junk food and should be eschewed. The kind of milk they start with will kill ya, then it gets adulterated even more. See realmilk.com. 2) While kefir organisms MAY stick around longer in the gut than the bacteria added to yogurt, it's important to remember that the long-lived Caucasians in Georgia Russia make and eat their HOME-MADE kefir virtually EVERY DAY OF THEIR LIFE. They also begin with their own farm-fresh raw milk. What most stores call kefir is a joke. 3) The organisms used to make milk curdle into yogurt are NOT intestinal organisms. Some products have LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS added later but that is not what produced the yogurt culture. Virtually all the beneficial organisms in liquid medium are dead or inactive by the time you consume it. 4) Anyone anywhere can track down farmer milk to drink and lacto-ferment. If you can't find it, you aren't looking hard enough. 5) Anyone anywhere can culture their own yogurt and/or kefir. It's really easy and sort of fun. Our local Tradtiona Foods group (start one if you don't have one) members continually maintain and exchange LF culture starters for sourdough, kefir, kombucha, and others. (Google " kefir making). 6) While you are at it, be sure to consume at least 2 tablespoons of LIVE LF SAEURKRAUT as it will prevent virtually all forms of cancer and contains the organisms that we need. Other LF vegetables work good too, but the CRUCIFEROUS vegetables are the ones with the indoles and antioxidants that prevent.. 7) Commercial probiotics are rated in CFUs (Colony Forming Units). It's wise to consume about 5 billion CFU daily. Double this if you are traveling, ill, have had Rx drugs, or are under stress.
