okay, so the dates are 7-10 to 7-13. Got it. Now IF my daughter can go. IF she

can skip out on class, what would I do? I don't need the young child classes. I

don't need the intro. I just don't know what I would do. She is now 21, will

graduate from university in December and will move on off our insurance and such

so what is in it for me? Thanks for the input. I think it could be good for her,

but don't want her to go alone but yeah....

Just a quick update on the JA conference....

They have some preliminary information on the AF web page:

http://www.arthritis.org/ja-conference.php

Registration does not open until February - However, you can get details on

the hotel costs, registration costs, local transportation etc. There is also a

preliminary agenda.....

We're still pinning down a few of the speakers, so some of the topics may

change - but for the most part, I think it's accurate.

I mentioned before that some of the special " extras " aren't listed on the

agenda yet, until we get all of the funding finalized. I'll just say that we

are doing our very best to include as much fun (and breakfasts) as possible. I

should be able to post more next month....It's been a real learning experience.

Our local chapter is responsible for raising the money for so mucgh of what we

want to see at the conference.... National pays for a bunch, but we want to do

more :)

We're starting to get busier with the planning, and I have printed out all of

the comments and suggestions you sent me last fall. Believe me - I take them

all to heart! If you have any additional ideas, please let me know.

For those who have never attended a conference before, I promise you it will

be well worth the trip and the expense. There will be so much education, so

much growth, and so much fun - you'll leave swearing that you'll be going every

year! And for those veterans who'll be making it to Costa Mesa, I hope we do

you proud.

As we get go along, I'll be posting more info.....

Best hopes to all-

It's excellent for young adults like your daughter if just to network. I

found that even from my first AJAO conference, I never really learned

anything new from the sessions however just being with so many other YA's

with JA and having things within me ressonate from others was incredibly

rewarding and helpful.

In terms of for you... maybe you won't get much out of it besides maybe

seeing other young adults with your daughter and learning bits about those

adult transition times. I would think that one excellent possibility is the

knowledge and support you can contribute to others. There are always so many

newly diagnosed families and they really need the expereinced people to talk

to. That is always a wonderful and rewarding thing to be part of. Being able

to impar that hope that yep Ive been there and now my daughter is 21 and

going to college! WOW...

In terms of your daughter needing to skip class... lol... while this may not

be relevent completely.... i rememeber my pediatric rheumatologist Dr Szer

used to write letters to excuse kids for camp or AJAO saying it's theraputic

treatment.... LOL. I just thoight that was hilarious but the point is that a

little class is really a small thing compared to the emotional value of

networking and ressonating with other young adults dealing with this crap

disease. I really can't quite explain the impact AJAO had on me but it was

absolutely amazing and really helped cement my own career goals as well as

learning to cope better with people who don't get it...

Just my two or three cents

Thanks Donna. I think your group will better suit her needs and be much much

cheaper actually. let me know and I will see what I can do. She is taking two

classes in summer school but depending on when it is, it may work out.

I hope you are doing well Donna and life is much quieter for you this year.

Hi e-

I think I can gather from your posts where you are coming from on this

topic... I just wanted to throw in that there are two topics each breakout block

intended specifically for young adults - everything from career/financial

planning, to arthritis and intimacy and pregnancy/parenting. I know it may not

work with Jo's schedule.... and that there will be other opportunities to have

education and networking.

You're right too that you are so well versed and educated in the topic that

there might not be much in it for you... or if there is something new, the

decisions are hers to make now.

I just want to say that what might be in it for you and other parents in the

same boat - is the incredible value you bring to other parents who are just

starting out on the journey. The fact that your daughter is an independent,

successful college student is something that gives hope to parents looking at

the road ahead with fear and apprehension. Not that you have to travel to a

conference to give that gift to others... you do it all the time here on the

board!

Best hopes to you all-
