Guest guest
hi Beth, 3 years ago had a horrid case of mono (along with other things) that eventually led to her diagnosis of cvid - her first strep screen was neg. However, her spleen felt enlarged, and the dr said it is not unusual for a false neg in the early stages. It was not until almost 3 months later, when repeat test results showed she had indeed had Epstein-Barr (mono). The bump doesn't fit the picture though ... got thrush from a long term antibiotic and it was more like a scrape-able coating - so I agree, it doesn't sound like thrush. Hannah sure does present the curious situations! About our trip, I guess I wasn't clear, the hospital stay will be at Chelsea Community Hospital as the head and neuro institute has their own wing there. We won't know her definite discharge date, don't have plane tickets home...supposedly they have a " shared " computer at the Inn on the hospital grounds where I will be staying so I don't feel disconnected from everyone! Thanks for the well wishes Beth. Please let us know what the dr says regarding Hannah today. We all know she too needs some relief as well! Beth Yohnk <yohnkmom@...> wrote: I have a question. Hannah has had a sore throat for more than a month. She's had 2 negative strep screens and a normal culture. It hurts more towards bedtime than any other time of day. Last night I looked in her throat and there is a pea sized bump on the back of her throat. Not as far down as the tonsils, but not on the roof of her mouth either. I'm taking her in today because they need to be sure it's not a polyp. She is excellent about rinsing her mouth after Advair, so I don't think its thrush. Have any of your kids had a throat polyp? What if anything do they do for this? Any other thoughts? Sending prayers & happy thoughts, Beth :-)
Guest guest
Beth, has experienced Sore Throats out of the blue. As you mentioned it was more at bedtime and morning than any other time of the day. We did find out she did not have Strep several times. The ENT Dr checked her out and sent her to another Dr as her Sore Throats were nagging. I kept a supply of Pop Sicles in the freezer as this helped her. I also tried the Throat Spray on her too. One dr said as the Air is Dry the throat can become dry and cause this. Another Dr said that if a child is a mouth breather this will happen alot. So found out if she slept with her mouth closed it helped. She also seemed to notice it more when it was drier outside. We parent's have to remember that JA can cause anything to happen. One thing is these kids dehydrate easily. So when the mouth is opened and the child breathes in and out only the throat can get raw. Possible a virus but who knows. I would let a ENT Dr check her out. Robbin **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Hi : Once again her strep was negative. He does not think it's mono or a polyp. Just probably one of her whacky viruses...great. That means she will not feel well for at least a couple of weeks, her body does not fight viral stuff well at all. I will be on high Hannah-alert for the next several days. She tends to crash quickly. Good luck with your trip, I will be praying like crazy for you guys! Sending prayers & happy thoughts, Beth :-) Re: OT: persistent sore throat hi Beth, 3 years ago had a horrid case of mono (along with other things) that eventually led to her diagnosis of cvid - her first strep screen was neg. Guest guest
Hi Beth, I'm sorry they couldn't pin it down specifically so they could better treat her...I do hope she is past it soon and feeling better. If it continues, have you continued an ENT? It must be exhausting for you to remain on high-Hannah alert, waiting for the other shoe to drop (not that you wouldn't do it every day of your life because of your obvious intense love of your daughter....just saying you must be tired.). Take care of yourself too. How have you been feeling? How is your Dad doing? Please tell Hannah I hope she feels better. Hugs, Beth Yohnk <yohnkmom@...> wrote: Hi : Once again her strep was negative. Guest guest
Hi, Beth. Sorry you did not get an answer yet again. I have just a little thought to put out there. Recently my youngest went through a bout of being sick with what seemed like a nagging virus. She had a bad head cold and a sore throat. She would seem to improve and within a week or so, it was back. This went on from the beginning of school, through October. Finally I had enough of her being worn down and sick and took her into the dr in November. She gave Jenn a course of antibiotics, even though strep was negative and mono was also (not that antibiotics do anything to mono). It did the trick. She thought perhaps Jenn may have had a sinus infection and that was contributing to the sore throat. The med really did the trick. She also gave her something to help dry up the sinuses (I can't remember the name of that one). I know drs do not like to use antibiotics without a clear reason, but for Jenn it really helped. Just a thought, Michele ( 20, spondy) ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Beth Yohnk Sent: Thursday, January 17, 2008 8:59 PM Subject: Re: OT: persistent sore throat Hi : Once again her strep was negative.
