Guest guest
Remember what now seems ages ago, when Bill was being honored by the Make A Wish Foundation and we all sent in cash as a surprise thank you in recognition of his tremendous work for this charity? What happened on that night? How much cash did the BFL'ers make and was Bill pleasantly suprised? Anyone know? Leaner.

I think it's a tie between a computer for his room and going to Universal Studios. What does think he will wish for? Our children spend so much time being ill, it only makes sense that they qualify. Guest guest
Both and ph have been granted wishes. When they came back with blasts in their bone marrow (they are on their way o transforming into leukemia--blasts are leukemia cells) they were granted wishes...I will send an article that I wrote-- okay, two. wished to meet Steve from Blue's Clues an ph wished to meet Pooh bear. It was great for te whole family. after all teh medical stuff we deal with... it was a much needed break. pattie -- Make A Wish Dear family, Well you guys feel like family:) I have been away from my computer and have not had a chance to read the 150 e mails but will in the next couple of days.........but I had to share this with you............Over the years has been encouraged to contact Make A wish, as parents we always put it aside because my son does not have cancer and has a disease that with IVIG is controlled. Those who are new had 6 surgeries in two years k-1st grade before being diagnosed at LPCH at Stanford. He is now in the 7th grade, has been on IVIG for 5 years every three weeks, except for a trail off in 6th grade that resulted in another surgery. His Igg levels are in the normal range. But He does not produce a response to the pneumocaccal vaccine. He does produce a semi response to the Prevnar vac. With the lack of response to the pnuemo vac and his clinical information the doc diagnosed him with Selective Antibody Def. Anyway we just recently had a nurse ask if we ever contacted Make A WIsh, We said no and she said let him the worst that will happen is they will say no. So I told ok.........He looked up the web sit on the computer and sent his name in on their referral form on the site.........A kid can nominate himself. Within two days we got a call from MAke A wish. Asking if we knew contacted them..we said yes, they asked a Doctors name that they could contact to see if met the criteria. I gave them our Pediatricians name as he knows the best. Well, one week letter gets a letter letting him know he qualifies for a wish!!! They are coming to our house this Tuesday to talk to . All Parents contact Make A wish its for the kids! They make the discision based on your doctor, so make sure you give them the Doc who knows your child the best. I'll let you know how it goes. I always thought it was for kids that are dying, but are kids qualify too! le This forum is open to parents and caregivers of children diagnosed with a Primary Immune Deficiency. Guest guest
Janet!!! Brittney & the boys will have a blast!!! Going through Make A Wish puts you all at an advantage over other guests!!! When Brittney gets her MAW badge, she get to teh front of line for the rides and signatures of the Charactures. There is NO waiting for her or your family!!! Blake went when he was 10. He had a blast. When we went we rode a limo to the air port which was 2 hrs. from home. We had fist dibs on getting him in the plane's, no waiting for first class to fill. They got Blake to his seat first. They treated him like he was a king!!! When we arrived in Fl. We were greeted by a couple WHO made sure our luggage was tended to & did not get lost. They took us to our rental car that we used through out the trip. They knew Blake was quite tired, but they made his arrival very good & he was sooooo excited. he still remembers their names. We were given a Toyota Avalon fully loader to drive where ever we wanted to. When we arrived at GKTW, Blake was greeted with balloons, since they knew of his Latex allergies he was given Mylar. he received a GKTW T-shirt as well as a Disney World one. He was given a 50 yr. anniversary Mickey Mouse Doll that had a 50 yr. pin on the bottom of the foot. This is the framed picture on his website!!! I would never trade the look & love he had right then & there. While & I filled out the paper work, Blake roamed around the office/play room. He was in awe. He loved the big map of GKTW area!!! he already had his picks & he was ready to get it done. Since the first day, you have orientation & are tired anyway, it is best to stay around the grounds & roam. It is awesome & a wonderful place to forget why you are there!!! They put you in a house that has the last name of the child who is the guest. When you walk in, the fridge is FULL, there are a few gifts left on the table. There is a living room 2 bedrooms, a laundry room. one small bath(full) and a big bath with a huge spa!!! You are furnished with clean linen & toiletries. It is amazing!!! When you go to orientation they only need one adult to go. They give you all the tickets to out side Disney things, they give you your park hoppers, they give you special privileges to park in Handicapped spaces at the Parks. You don't even have to worry about the parking fees!!! They also give you a chance to use a camcorder for a day & we were given a digital camera to use!!! We used the camcorder & got some really great video while riding the Hall Of Horror ride!!!! They also will let you invite the mayor to come & tuck the children in(I suggest you sign up for this because Blake LOVED to have one on one with the Mayor!!!) the Mayor even took time to read a book to Blake!!!! When you are in orientation, you also get to sign up to go & have dinner outside of GKTW. We went to OUTBACK. They pick the place, but you get to eat whatever you want & they also babysat!!!! NO KIDS. Just you & your companion. Then the next day you set out to Disney & have a wonderful time. We always had Breakfast in the diner @ GKTW & made it back by 6:00 every evening for dinner. We ate lunch at the parks. We were given a free meal at Hard Rock Cafe. We really were too busy for eating but made sure Blake was given food!!! At the end of Day one in the park, Blake was invited to be the Grand Marshal of the Parade. He ate up the attention!!! They have a parade everyday but you have to get there between 2-3 to see the whole thing. They also have a fireworks show at the end of the day. You can go back out after dinner but have to be back by midnight!!! We usually went to the beach or just ride around FLA. Wal-Mart is right down the road. Sooooo, we developed our pictures each nite. MAW paid for it!!! We were given able to purchase some souvenirs. But each day, GKTW had treats for Blake set on the table & clean linens in the room by the time we got back to the house for dinner. Well I need to close for now. If you want to just email me & I can send some pics of the trip....It will be an experience none of you will forget(Blake nor I had ever been before...I also celebrated my 38Th birthday there we went Sept. 29-Oct 6, 2002) Mom to Blake 16(in 2 more weeks)SCID, & other issues Sub-Q once a week & glad he at home during treatments!!! http://www3.caringbridge.org/sc/blakester The Greatest Adventure of MY Lifetime!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BBsmart2@... wrote: We are very excited we are going to Walt Disney World. Guest guest
--- GKTW ROCKS! my ten yr old went last May, for her MAW, and it was awesome. If your child(ren) have any special dietary needs, they will make accomodations.......we notified them ahead of time, and they had dairy free ice cream in the ice cream shop when we arrived. As soon as we got there, they had pizza's ordered to our villa. the villa was AWESOME......huge, and we have four children, and my parents came with us. The place to eat is incredible, and has so many choices, the ice cream shop is open from 8am till 10pm, which is a dream come true for most kids. Your grandsons will love the all day carosoul. Our daughter was given a star, she put her name on it, and it went on the ceiling with millions of other childrens stars. Every night when we came back, gifts for all my children were waiting on the table. I thought it was so kind that all my kids were included. We just hated to leave, I cried. When we checked out, we were given a packet with pics the staff had taken of our family during our stay, along with free passes for one year from that date, to several different amusement parks around the nation---we used one up in the fall, for a park in our state. If I could give you any advice---I will tell you to take some empty bags with you....I was told that, but didnt really think we would bring so many things back........the night before we left, we had to run to a walmart to buy FIVE extra bags to haul all my kids gifts back with:), which was a happy problem. And make sure you hit Animal Kingdoms Mount Everest ride........your daughter will LOVE it. We are currently in the process of my 7 yr old sons MAW.....are waiting on the paperwork. He thinks he wants to meet Jack Sparrow at the moment, but that could change. I thought the whole MAW experience was incredible, and our trip came at a really difficult time for our family. Im so happy for you that you get to go........you couldnt ask for anything more incredible. valarie mom to three with CVID In , BBsmart2@... wrote: > > We are very excited we are going to Walt Disney World. Anyone need to refrigerate meds on a plane, other than IVIG, etc-we have several refrigerated meds- antibiotics, fluconasole, growth hormone cartridges, etc that need to be in a cooler or refrigerated. Also, anyone take a child with the cognitive ability of a toddler to three year to Disney World and, if so, what suggestions do you have-my son is 6 years old but he is the size of, and has the cognitive ability of, a 3 ½ year old. Guest guest
They can give you anti-flu meds but they only work if given within a couple of days of onset of symptoms. I know it works as well because I have had to get it for my children and with the first one she was started on it and within 24 hours the fever was totally gone. Guest guest
Hi Everyone! Just wanted to let you know that Sam is getting a wish from the Make A Wish Foundation!! I've always been under the impression that the foundation only grants wishes to terminally ill children; but that's not the case. Wishes are granted to children who have suffered long-term illnesses. My foundation reps. said to pass the word onto other families/children with arthritis. Come on, Moms! All you have to do is go to the website, fill out the application. Approvals have a lot to do with the doctor's input. The foundation will contact them (after you submit the application) asking them for more information on the illness. Our kids so deserve this!!!! We are so excited! Lincoln (mom to Sam, age 6 - dx at 1 year with Systemic JRA)
