Guest guest
does anyone know anything about this? My daughter aged 2 has oligoarthritis and is treated with steroid injections, most frequently in her ankles. She has had a nasty cold virus, but her joints have been fine, not swollen or hot, then when she woke on wednesday she literally couldnt stand let alone walk but got going as the day went on, still complaining of pain. then on thursday could not stand at all. Anyway to cut a very long story short i took her to the local hospital explained that she couldnt walk but no swelling etc, they said it may just be the virus causing painful joints but i didnt buy it because its not how the arhritis works with her there is a definite time line of symptoms, crying, heated joints, increasing swelling etc before the level of pain hits that she cant walk/stand. They did x rays and bloods and came back with a diagnosis of Kohlers disease, has anyone heard of this/had it, is it a side effect/complication of steroid injections? It is very rare and normally it is seen in boys between the ages of 6 and 9, so a she is a girl and b she is very young. It is a vascular thing whereby blood supply is cut off to the bone and it kind of dies causing pain, limping etc. Apparently it is self limiting she doesnt need any treatment just pain relief and it should go away on its own in a few days/a week. The results are all being forwarded to our rheumatologist but was interested to know what you think, thanks milena
