Guest guest
Hi everyone, For those of you who have kids that have taken kineret, how have they adapted to having the daily, painful injection? I really think it is time for us to switch. has been on Humira for 2 1/2 years, and is still dealing with joint pain and stomach aches. She has missed 13 days of school this year, mostly b/c of stomach pains. She is on MTX of 20 mg/week, so maybe that is contributing to the problem. As much as I dread the thought of daily injections, I just want to see her well. She has a hard time with the Humira injections, so I know it will be a daily battle if we switch. Her next appt is in June, so I am praying I know what to ask for by then. Thanks for your help. Sophie
Guest guest
Hi Sophie, My son who is almost 12 yrs has been on Kineret for two years. It is a painful shot, but he has been on everything else, and not been as well as he is now on Kineret. We give him the injection after he falls asleep. It seems to work for us. He knows the shot is coming, and he does yelp when he gets the shot and for a minute or so after, but then we tuck him in and he falls back asleep. We also take the syringe out of the fridge at least an hour before, as it’s a bit less painful if the solution is not cold. If you want more details I’ll be happy to provide them. Good luck. Guest guest
Hi Sophie, My daughter Jordan is 11 with Systemic, she has been on Kineret for 18 months, it has been a wonder drug, we are finally to the point where she is taking the injections every other day.We found that the best way for the injections was to use emla cream, numbing cream , on the spot she is doing the injection. We would apply the cream along with a tegaderm about 2 hours before the shot, she would also take the shot out to warm up for an hour.At first we did the shots in her butt, but after about 4 months she decided she wanted to do it in her stomache and on her own.She now does the injection on her own. Depending on how she feels now is whether she does the shot with the numbing cream or not.We have had great successwith kineret and I hope you have the same. a and Jordan (11,SOJRA and MAS) From: slevindoski <slevindoski@...>Subject: Kineret Date: Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 8:13 AM Hi everyone,For those of you who have kids that have taken kineret, how have they adapted to having the daily, painful injection?I really think it is time for us to switch. has been on Humira for 2 1/2 years, and is still dealing with joint pain and stomach aches. Guest guest
Thanks so much for your reply! Sounds like your daughter really does well with the injections. I have read so much about kineret and systemic jra, and I have a lot of hope that it could put in a medicated remission. Maybe we would even be able to reduce her Methotrexate. Glad to hear Jordan is doing well! Take care. Sophie
Guest guest
Thanks for replying. That is great that you can do the shot after Ezra is asleep! It seems like " Humira " night is such a big deal in our house. Probably it would become routine fast if it were an every day thing. And it would be worth it to have in a medicated remission. Thanks again, and I am glad kineret is working for Ezra. Take care. Guest guest
glad you got your meds, and praying for good things for . Veri & Jaye 16 poly Kineret Well, I have received our supply of kineret. It only took about 10 days so I guess that's pretty good. I have so many boxes of it, if it works at the initial dosing this supply will last for 9 months to a year. Any recommendations on storing it? Lots of boxes for the kitchen refrigerator so I'm thinking put some in the basement guest room refrigerator too. Probably better to " put our eggs in several baskets " in case one appliance goes out? Also, I have a temp guage for the frig - pharmacist told me to keep it between 36 and 46. Am I on the right track? First shot tonight at bedtime, am so praying it works for . Thanks, nn (, 9, systemic)
