Guest guest
Hello all, First I'd like to say thank you to Colleen who talked about this support group at the AJAO Conference. I have been avidly reading all of your posts and although I am WAY behind in responding to them, I will try to keep up with all of you and know that my prayers are with you all. Well, we went to the Rheumatologist on Tuesday and his left knee looks good but his right ankle is flaring up. It was swollen and she felt fluid in it so it's back on the Naprosyn for Bradley. Also, we went to the Opthamologist today and got some not so happy news. He is showing inflammation in both eyes, he said +2 so he is upping the dosage of the Pred forte to 4x a day AND we have to patch his right eye for 2-4 hours a day due to a severe astigmatism. The dr. said we are going to try the 4x a day and then slowly wean him off down to 1 drop a day and if he shows signs of flare ups after that, he is going to suggest going on Remmicade. I have mixed feelings about him being on the Pred forte again. Since it is a Steriod I am just wondering if it wouldn't be better to just switch to the Remmicade and avoid the Steriod all together? Does that sound dumb? Also, Bradley is on injectable MTX and shouldn't that be helping with the eyes and flare ups? I guess I am still new to all of this and am just trying to process all the info from the Optho today. We go see him next Friday so we just have to play this week by ear and take it one day at a time. Thanks for listening and hope you all have a great weekend! ~ marie~ Mommy to Bradley ( Pauciarticular JRA) Charlie and
Guest guest
marie - I'm sorry Bradley is having a flare in his eye. The drops are necessary for right now. It is the long term use of them that is not good. Bradley is on MTX so yes that should be helping the eyes too but it tends to take a higher dose for Uveitis. So maybe even increasing that dosage will help. Now - our ped opth knows nothing about using dmards and such to control Uveitis (which is very frustrating to me) so we always see the Opth within a week before, we go to the rheumy. That way the rheumy will look up our Opth appt. to see how Grants eyes were and make the necessary adjustments to his medication. To me, (i'm certainly no expert at this or a doc) your Opth's plan sounds right but it just depends how long that will take to wean down to 1 drop/day. If you haven't done this already I would highly encourage you to email Dr. on www.uveitis.org. Explain to him in detail your situation and see what he would recommend. & Grant (11, PsA/Uveitis) > > > > Hello all, > > First I'd like to say thank you to Colleen who talked about this > support group at the AJAO Conference.
