Guest guest
I have a friend who's endometriosis improved when she stopped her 3 or 4 cans of diet coke a day Kathy : I suffered from chronic migranes for years. They started when I was : in college, and I had at least two a month for almost 5 years. I : could not leave the house without a shot of Imetrix in my purse. I : saw an internal medicine doctor regularly, and he had me on all sorts : of anti-depressants to " cure " the problem, but they made a total mess : of my menstrual cycles, and I felt terrible on them. I finally solved : the problem over night when I read a few articles on the dangers of : NutraSweet and completely gave it up. I have only had 3 migranes over : the last 6 years, and I think they were all due to skipping meals that : day and extreme exhaustion. The sad thing is that I would not have : considered myself a Nutrasweet junkie at the time either. I don't : drink coffee or tea, and my only weakness was that I drank the : equivalent of 2 cans of Diet Coke a day to fight fatigue in college : and in the workplace. Basically, those 2 cans of Diet Coke were : ruining my life at the time. I would assume that your 14 year old son : is not eating much Nutrasweet, but it is just a thought. Some of my : absolute worst migranes were after drinking sugar-free Koolaid or : eating sugar free yogurt, so Nutrasweet can be everywhere. : : A girlfriend went through a similar situation last year where she : suffered from so many vertigo attacks that she was getting every type : of brain scan possible, and she thought she was going to have to quit : her job. She drank 2 diet Pepsi's a day. She gave up the Nutrasweet, : and she has been well ever since. : : Kendra :
Guest guest
I would like to assume that everyone already is aware of this----the connection between migraines and MSG.....?????? There are websites devoted to MSG monosodium glutamate-- and MSG is found in many many many foods, not just Chinese take-out! It is also often disguised as such things as hydrolized soy protein, and spices, and other natural flavors. Beware!!!!!
Guest guest
cindy, the person sheri refers to when talking about recurring migraines that were eventually healed thru homeopathy--is herself!! she suffered for years and then was finally cured by a good homeopath and is migraine free to this day--i believe!! i am extremely new to the whole concept of homepathy, but that is where i would sincerely suggest you go to look for answers for your son--the allopathic community only has test after test to perform on your son and most likely will never come up with a viable solution to his problem. homeopathy will have a MUCH better shot at getting to the problem and finding a solution quickly and without drugs and side effects!! it really is worth the try!! good luck--i feel soooo sorry for him--i hope you find a homeopath who can help!! go to sheri's website for a list of classical homeopaths in your area. brigit, in albany, ny
Guest guest
, I have been a migraine sufferer since I was 7, a total of 16 years now, and they seem to get worse when I am pregnant. Once I have the new baby I intend to see a homeopath and get everything straightened out completely with my entire body. I'm all out of whack. I really feel for your son. That poor boy. It makes me cry to know that there's another kid out there going through what I (and so many others!) go through. Please give him a big hug for me and tell him that someday things will change. And then go call a homeopath. Sheri had mentioned to me once of a man who had severe migraines for years and treated them homeopathically and is now completely migraine free! It amazed me. ~ Texas --- Hjfasufi@... wrote: > Hi, everyone has been so helpful on the list. Well I need some more > help. Guest guest
Hi . I'm sorry about your son. You might want to check out the book by Pater D'Adamo called " Eat Right For Your Type " or his most recent book " Live Right For Your Type " . It is a diet based on the 4 blood types: O, A, B, AB. It is based on the theory that each blood type is able to digest certain foods but not others. The proteins in foods react with the immune system and can cause or exacerbate many illnesses including headaches, arthritis, ADHD, diabetes, etc. The book explains it more clearly than I can. If your son can stick with the diet for a few weeks, you might find it to work. I had terrible headaches, muscle pain and fatigue for 5 years. I tried everything inc. massage, chiropractic, cleansing, psychiatrist, stress relief, rheumatologist (they wanted to give me drugs and told me it was FIBROMYALGIA). NOTHING WORKED until this diet. When I cheat, the pain and fatigue comes back. He has a website, but you will need to order the book or get it at a bookstore to really learn about the diet. It is based on scientific evidence...he is a naturopath, I believe. Guest guest
Oh my gosh, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unsweetened Koolaid contains Aspartame (Nutrasweet). If I drank a glass of that stuff, I might as well jump in the car and drive myself to the hospital since I know the migrane will be coming shortly. Take him off the Koolaid. Just drink the regular stuff. I treat myself to plain old classic Coke or sweet drinks like fruit juices and Koolaid when I get the urge, and they are so much better for you than the unsweetened stuff (as ironic as that may sound). Stay away from all Equal (blue sugar-like packets) as well. Research says that Aspartame just makes you crave carbs and other sweet foods, so you tend to gain more weight anyway. There is no advantage to the " zero calories " . Here is a link to a bunch of Aspartame articles, so you can start reading about the dangers. http://www.mercola.com/article/aspartame/index.htm Good Luck! Guest guest
I had migraines that would send me to the hospital for painkillers. I would get them about twice a month and they would make me vomit. I couldn't stand light or noise, it felt like a hot poker in my head. I had tried all the medical things out there. Went through MRI's, x-rays, tons of prescription drugs. They never could find a cause. I kept food diary and couldn't find a food trigger. I started going to a chiropractor on a regular basis about 4.5 years ago. They slowed down and after 6 months of treatment, I was completely free of migraines. I get a very minor migraine now and again when I haven't been to the chiropractor for awhile.
Guest guest
Read the labels...if it says sugar free, you can bet your last dollar it has nutrasweet or aspartame in it of some sort...what about regualar koolaid or water with flavorings added and some honey? Iced tea has caffeine. Those yogurt drinks, maybe? I am not a medical doctor, nor do I portray one on t.v.! (But my husband,Mike,is!!!) Guest guest
From kalima <kalima@...> Nutrasweet is so horrible. My oldest daughter was sick off and on for awhile and we couldnt figure out what it was for the longest time. She would get to the point of being unable to get off the couch and would vomit and run a fever and complain of a headache. The doctors ran tests and tried to figure out was wrong but never came up with anything. Called it a virus. Well we started eating a healthier diet after I had #2 and Brittney was doing better. Having seen the effects on her of eating food with out chemicals I tried my best to keep her free from it. I figured she must be sensitive to somthing but her ped wouldnt listen to me. He said it was a virus and it was gone. Several years later when she started Kindergarten she went to a her first sleep over. The mom hosting it called me to tell me Britt was extreamly ill and she was concerened. It was 2 am and I rushed over and picked her up. I figured it was the stomach flu. She got better in 2 days. Next few times she went to this child's house the same things happened. So I asked the mom what Britt was eating thinking maybe we had a food allergy. Only new thing was Diet Coke and sugar free popsicles. It took a while and one good doc in our ped group to discover it was the nutrasweet but my dear little girl cannot handle this stuff at all. 2 weeks ago I mistakenly bought popsicles for my oldest son who was sick in bed with a sore throat and wanted some. I say mistakenly as in my attempt to buy something healty I bought an all juice pop that said No Sugar on the front. I was in a rush and didnt think to check. How I missed that dang swirl at the bottom is beyond me still. He had one...suddenly went from getting better to getting worse. I only know of a handful of people that react like this to Nutrasweet. But from all I read on it..it shouldnt suprise me. Guest guest
Hey guys: I really need some help here.  I spent 4 1/2 hours with Hannah in the ER yesterday.  She started with a migraine on Thursday night, so I gave her an Imitrex. She woke up yesterday and it was worse so she took another Imitrex.  Two hours later she called me at work and it was getting. So I went over and talked with my pharmacist friend (she's in the same building I work in) and she said it would be ok to try one more. That was 9:30. At 10:00 Hannah called and said she was really nauseous and her head was getting worse.  The pediatrician covering for our reg ped sent us to the Children's ER. They gave her IV fluids and compazine. After her fluids were done, she was feeling better and were allowed to go home.  We got home at 3:00 and by 7:00 her headache was starting again. She fell asleep around 9:00. This morning she woke up nauseated and with a migraine. She took 2 Imitrex, which helped the migraine, but not the nausea. The pediatrician that was working this morning was kind enough to call in some compazine for her, which I gave her around 11:00. It is now 1:15 and she says her stomach hurts again. The dose is for every 8 hours. If her migraine recurs, we have to go back to the ER because she can't have another Imitrex today. So does anyone have any further suggestions, or what meds work for them or their kids? She has only been on the Amitriptylene for a week and they told it it would take 4-6 weeks before we see any difference (it was prescribed for her abdominal pain, but was told it could help prevent her migraines too).   It is breaking my heart to see Hannah like this. I would gladly take a joint flare over this any day. We are scheduled to follow with our regular ped on Monday and I won't be surprised if we have to go to yet another specialist (the ped on call suggested a neurology consult). Beth &  a very miserable Hannah  Sending prayers & happy thoughts, Beth
Guest guest
Hi Beth, Maggie and I are sending some extra prayers and Gentle Hugs your way for Hannah. Hopefully she will start feeling better soon. I think that she too has had her fair share of " Yucky " days and it is about time for a little bit of Sunshine to come her way. I wish so badly that I had a trick that worked for those dang Migraines, so far it seems for Maggie that she starts to feel better ONLY after she throws up. (not at all a pleasent way to get things done though!!) Hopefully someone out there on the list has a wonderful alternative to that, it sure would be nice! Hang in there!! Guest guest
Diane, I think Maggie and I are in the same boat. Once I puke and take a nap the migraine is gone, if I don't throw up I will wake up with one still. I actually found out I was allergic to compazine when I went to the ER with a migraine. I get severe spasms in my back and legs from it, no fun! Hope Maggie gets some sunshine heading her way. Beth, Hugs to Hannah, I hope tomorrow brings a better day. I can't believe she has had to deal with a migraine this long. Lots of thoughts and prayers. Guest guest
Thanks for all the prayers everyone. Please keep them coming.  Yesterday was rough for Hannah. We went to Mike's sister's house yesterday for a surprise 50th b-day part for her husband. I thought the fresh air would be good for Hannah. It was cool outside, but after just 45 minutes she was miserable. She was nauseated, her back & neck hurt and she of course had a headache   ( do not freak, this is typical for her with a migraine and her temp is normal!). I laid her on a heating pad (she had already maxed out on her Imitrex for the day) and she fell asleep.  This morning her stomach is still upset and she once again has a headache. She's had one imitrex already. She says this is not nearly as bad as Friday, but I don't know if I should take her back to the ER today or wait to see the ped tomorrow. Maybe she just needs something other than Imitrex.  Will update later... Guest guest
Hi Beth, I feel bad I have been so inconsistent with my interactions...please give Hannah some very gentle hugs and let her know we are thinking of her....it does sound like it might be time for a change in meds for Hannah. Imitrex stopped working for - presently she takes Relpax (similar but different) and also takes a daily prophylactic, which I believe Inderal is (her's is Topamax). When is so nauseaus, vomitting does not seem to make it better for her. I think the everyone is different and the difficult issue is finding what works for Hannah. It sounds as if perhaps the migraine is winding down a bit????(hoping.....) My concern at this point is the ER would turn to the narcotics for pain control, unless they repeated the iv fluids and compazine. Did you say they gave Hannah compazine? prefers promethazine, and that you can take every 6 hours, not 8. Might be worth asking. I hope tomorrow brings a headache, asthma-free week for Hannah. Please tell her , , Jayden and I all send our love. > From: Beth Yohnk <yohnkmom@sbcglobal . net> > Subject: OT: MIGRAINES > @group s.com > Date: Saturday, September 6, 2008, 6:22 PM > Hey guys: > I really need some help here.  I spent 4 1/2 hours > with Hannah in the ER yesterday.  She started with a > migraine on Thursday night, so I gave her an Imitrex. > She woke up yesterday and it was worse so she took another > Imitrex.  Two hours later she called me at work and it was > getting. So I went over and talked with my pharmacist > friend (she's in the same building I work in) and she > said it would be ok to try one more. That was 9:30. At > 10:00 Hannah called and said she was really nauseous and > her head was getting worse.  The pediatrician covering > for our reg ped sent us to the Children' s ER. > They gave her IV fluids and compazine. After her fluids > were done, she was feeling better and were allowed to go > home.  We got home at 3:00 and by 7:00 her headache was > starting again. She fell asleep around 9:00. This > morning she woke up nauseated and with a migraine. She > took 2 Imitrex, which helped the migraine, but not > the nausea. The pediatrician that was working > this morning was kind enough to call in some compazine for > her, which I gave her around 11:00. It is now 1:15 and > she says her stomach hurts again. The dose is for every 8 > hours. If her migraine recurs, we have to go back to the > ER because she can't have another Imitrex today. > > So does anyone have any further suggestions, or what meds > work for them or their kids? She has only been on the > Amitriptylene for a week and they told it it would take > 4-6 weeks before we see any difference (it was prescribed > for her abdominal pain, but was told it could help prevent > her migraines too).   It is breaking my heart to see > Hannah like this. I would gladly take a joint flare over > this any day. We are scheduled to follow with our regular > ped on Monday and I won't be surprised if we have to go > to yet another specialist (the ped on call suggested a > neurology consult). > > Beth &  a very miserable Hannah >  > Sending prayers & happy thoughts, > Beth > >

Guest guest
Thanks Hadley. I hope she gets a break too.  It's been a rough few months.  Today for the first time ever she started feeling sorry for herself. I let her have a pity party and then SHE apologized to me for having a bad attitude! Ugh, she is such a trooper.  Sending prayers & happy thoughts, Beth Re: OT: MIGRAINES Beth, I am so sorry that Hannah is going through these migraines. Guest guest
Hi ,     Thank you for the Sunshine for Maggie!! Right back at ya!     Any change in the weather, doesn't matter what kind of change......she will get a migraine. Always, after IVIg infusions too. But at least as awful as it sounds, she can get over it as soon as she throws up and sleeps for a little while. She has never had to suffer for days, Thank God!   Hugs from Iowa!    Diane and Maggie > From: Beth Yohnk <yohnkmomsbcglobal (DOT) net> > Subject: OT: MIGRAINES > @group s.com > Date: Saturday, September 6, 2008, 6:22 PM > Hey guys: > I really need some help here.
Guest guest
Beth, does have an email address. Aundrea's email crashed and she lost all of her contacts. Aundrea is being referred to a GI specialist. Her nausea troubles are persisting and I told her that Hannah had recently gone to a GI specialist. she wants to talk with her about it. I hope the migraine is subsiding for her. sonia (aundrea 13 fibromyalgia/ibs)- -- In , Beth Yohnk <yohnkmom@...> wrote: > > Thanks Hadley. I hope she gets a break too.  It's been a rough few months.  Today for the first time ever she started feeling sorry for herself. I let her have a pity party and then SHE apologized to me for having a bad attitude! Ugh, she is such a trooper. >  > Sending prayers & happy thoughts, > Beth > > > > Re: OT: MIGRAINES > > > Beth, > > I am so sorry that Hannah is going through these migraines.
