Guest guest
There is a company called flavorx that flavors kids medicines. I know walgreens offers the service, but they also sell a home flavoring kit. They have all kinds of flavors (bubblegum, cherry, grape, etc). It really worked for my daughter when she had to get her tonsils out as the pain medication made her retch everytime. Someone suggested Walgreens flavoring and it worked. Guest guest
thanks for the advice will make a note of those for the future-very clever idea, dont think it exists in the uk, have just got off the phone with the hospital who want to swap her to tablets partly because of the fact we cant be sure how much medicine she is getting and partly because of the toxicity and the fact that she is spilling it on me, herself etc and i have another child to consider. so fingers crossed she will take the tablets because the alternatives dont bear thinking about. thanks again. > > > HI ALL, HAVENT BEEN ON HERE FOR A WHILE AS HAVING GONE THRU HELL FOR A > > YEAR MY NOW NEARLY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS PUT ON ORAL METHOTREXATE > > ONCE A WEEK FOR HER JUVENILE ARTHRITIS. Guest guest
They started my dd on the oral as well. She was just about the same way as your dd too. I don't want to discourage you but I wanted to tell you that the tablets were worse for her. The taste is terrible and it is hard to get a 3yr old to take tablets. I hope it turns out okay for you. I am glad she has only 3 to take, my dd had to take 8 and that was a wreck from the beginning. Try to keep the experience as relaxed as possible. Do you have any meds you can take at the same time? If not a baby asprin probably won't hurt you, or there could be some tic, tac; placebos; or herbals you could take. This always helped us but we didn't think about it for years. I wish we had. My dd is now 11 and she's been on tablets once again in the last year. She prefers the shots by far. If I do it fast and don't allow her much time to think about it she won't be sick. We always know she got all the med. She says it doesn't make her tummy quite as sick with the shot either. Guest guest
hi, the one thing that this experience has taught me is that life is never straight forward. my main concern was that the methotrexate would work without any harmful side effects. Marija has been well now for 4 months which is a record and she is doing so well it makes me cry with joy and relief, and then she stops wanting to take the stuff and there is nothing more stubborn thn a nearly 3 year old. The hospital is pretty insistant that i try the tablets i have no choice really until i at least try they wont prescribe any more oral and i only have about one dose left in the bottle so cross everything for me for friday night and thanks, will let you know how we get on, best wishes, milena > > > > thanks for the advice will make a note of those for the future-very > > clever idea, dont think it exists in the uk, have just got off the > > phone with the hospital who want to swap her to tablets partly > because > > of the fact we cant be sure how much medicine she is getting and > > partly because of the toxicity and the fact that she is spilling it > on > > me, herself etc and i have another child to consider. so fingers > > crossed she will take the tablets because the alternatives dont bear > > thinking about. thanks again. --- In , > >
Guest guest
Quick suggestion on the tablets (which you may already know about) - try putting them in a spoonful of something she may like to eat, such as ice cream, applesauce, puddings, things that are a bit thick and she won't really be inclined to chew. Luckily the pills are pretty tiny so that might work. I used to do this for my son with his prednisone, until he was able to swallow pills. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Guest guest
I was going to say the same thing. My girls do several vitamins/supplements a day and Zoe has such an issue swallowing that we do this. Applesauce is great, so is yogurt. Good luck. Guest guest
hi, gave marija methotrexate tablets tonight for first time since she started refusing the liquid. she did fantasically well, am so proud of her, i told her if she could swallow the three little pills she wouldnt have to take the yucky medicine any more and she pretty much grabbed them out of my hand. she crunched the first one, swallowed the second with water and the third one dry. i was really concerned about how she would manage given she is not even 3 yet but she was amazing so fingers crossed she will continue taking them........thanks for all your advice
