Take that JRA! Daughter 1, JRA Zero!!!

I know so many of you are struggling and your child is struggling and it can

be hard to think of the future for your child and what will he/she do when they

are older etc. My daughter has never hit a remission--be it medicated or

unmedicated. She has been through the wringer like so many and yet JRA has not

won. On Saturday she graduated from University with a Bachelors degree in

Education, with a minor in Music, an emphasis in History, and a Reading

Endorsement. She is now eligible to teach K-8. She has done this with ER trips,

hospital stays, injections, IVs, surgery, depression, etc. but JRA did not win.

I am not posting this to brag (although I am proud of her and her

accomplishments) but to let you know there is hope. There may have to be a

change in dreams--she has had to quit some things, change other things, etc. but

she still did it. And so can your child. Seek out the help you need, don't give

in. You can do it.

God Bless Her!! It gives me hope. n is a sophomore at Santa

Clara. She has never had a remission either. These kids work so

hard thru all of their obstacles. I am so very happy for you and

her. (n, systemic, 20 next month)

We are in the appeals process. She is hoping that she can fill in full-time for

a teacher with benefits for the rest of the year. She is searching out leads and

praying one will work out. Subbing doesn't provide medical benefits

unfortunately. I'll let you know what happens. In the meantime we are going for

Remicaid again and hoping for a miracle to pay for it.

e,

What a major accomplishment that is!! I am sure you are so proud of her right

now, I know I am and I have never even met her!

She gives the rest of us whose children are much younger so much hope that

they too can achieve those same kinds of goals someday.

Please tell her that we think she is amazing and will be praying that things

continue to go well for her!

Thats awesome e. I am one of the long timers on this list and an old

timer with JRA so I do know know what this means! Please tell Joe how very proud

I am of her and to never, ever let JRA or any demons associated with it to stop

her. Slowing down is ok! But so long as she treads along and smiles in the face

of adversity she will be a total success. I know as mom you are beaming as you

should and I know Joe has to be filled joy and pride in her accomplishments.?

Hey e, it is awesome to hear that " joe " has done such amazing

before.

Tell her my little Kindergarten boy here was very excited to hear what a

I am so proud of Joe! What an amazing feat for her to accomplish. As someone who

is also going into the teaching profession I have to say that there needs to be

more educators like us. People who went through hell as kids or teens or young

adults because it makes us more compassionate and understanding which allows us

to be better teachers. Tell Joe congratulations from me. JRA can't hold her down

she has proved that time and time again. I remember when she graduated high

school with her AA (i believe that is what she got or maybe she had a lot of

college credits at hs graduation) despite the many hardships she has faced she

has perservered. I truly admire and respect Joe and I cannot wait to hear all

the amazing things she accomplishes in the future years.

With Love,

Wow, , you have an excellent memory. Yes, you are right. She received her AA

while in High school--graduating with it two weeks before high school grad. She

was hoping to finish her last week of student teaching but we are snowed in here

in the Seattle area so she didn't get to go and have her party the kids had

planned for her. Then today her boyfriend decided he wanted to hook up with his

old girlfriend so she is snowed in up north and I can't get her home until

Monday. So, I sent her everyones positive words so she can have a happy day. You

too are doing amazing things . I marvel at what all those effected by this

disease do by never giving up.

e,

Joe is a fighter, like all the kids with chronic illnesses. I was

very happy to read your post about Joe graduating. You must be so

proud of her!!

Have you tried Partnership for Prescription Assistance

(www.pparx.org). When was prescribed Humira and our

insurance company wouldn't approve, we tried to go through PPA. We

almost got it free, but they wouldn't send it b/c back then it wasn't

approved for children. I know remicade was on the list. Centocor is

the company. Check it out.

Take care.
