Hi ,

I took the Mobic the other night and it did nothing for my neck and

upper back pain. Good luck next week!

Yes, have tried Mobic, Bextra, Vioxx (they are all very simular), but

none seem to help much, although it does take a week or so to get in

your system so you should notice a difference in about that time. At

least try it a few weeks to see if it works for you since everyone's

pain is different. I have had some help with the muscle relaxant,

Skelaxin and Ibuprofen or Tylenol. The Skelaxin does not cause as

much sleeiness as other muscle relaxants and can be taken when at

work for the most part. As I said on my first post, I have been

fighting starting on pain meds in general. My surgeon gave me

Demerol last week which I filled and placed on the shelf--those days

are coming, though. Wish you the best.

My surgeon sent me to a pain management specialist which has really

helped. If your still needing to take vicodin, something that your GP

will prescribe probably won't help. My pain management doctor took me

off vicodin because it wasn't strong enough. It is only a short term

pain pill. He switched me over to Kadien which I take once every

twelve hours. Just a suggestion.

Theresa,

Thanks! I see my surgeon on Tuesday, so I will ask him about stuff

first. If he doesn't prescribe something, I will look into a pain

management clinic around here. I'm keeping everyone's useful tips

here and have a huge list of things to be asking my doctor :)

Theresa,

What's Kadien? I couldn't find it on an Rx site. Maybe the spelling

is different? Thanks,

OOPS! Sorry about that Loriann. I guess I could have just said that

it is morphine.

Hi I have question for all you that been there done that.  For those of you who

have kids with NSAID intolerance, like we now know Hannah is, what do you use

for pain or for that matter when they get a fever, if Tylenol is ineffective?

Just trying to be prepared.  We have tried Tylenol for Hannah in the past and it

has not been effective.  Thanks in advance.

Beth & Hannah, 11, unspecified arthritis w/hypermobility in every joint; asthma;

gerd; migraines & ulcers

Sending prayers & happy thoughts,

Beth :)

Hi Beth,

For Maggie we have had to use suppositories (not pleasent) but fever was 107

and her nurse said " no dice! " It did take her fever down though!

For pain tylenol is like giving Maggie water, I am sure after kids take it so

many times they can build up a resistance to it, just like any other pain med

they keep needing more and more to cover the same pain.

We have also used a Fentanyl pain patch. This was a Godsend to us at the time

when she needed it,she had a broken hip,she was in a horrible amount of pain her

doctors thought this was the best idea.....it was, but she became dependent on

the patch and when it came time to wean her off of it, she had horrible

withdrawls and had to be hospitalized.

Have they tried tylenol #3?

Maggie takes Dilauded which is stronger than morphine but oral morphine makes

her sick for some reason this doesn't. She is kind of a weird kid. It is a very

small pill and it does not help with inflammation at all but it does take the

edge off of her pain.

I am not sure if any of this helps you or not,I feel bad that she is having

such a rough time right now.

Hugs from Iowa!

Diane and Maggie

Rob can't take NSAIDS ever because of his kidney problem. No aspirin, no Peptol

Bismol (it has aspirin in it). He takes extra strength tylenol when he needs it.

When he had strep, eye infections and mono, that kicked his fever. I wish I had

something else to offer. Tepid baths can bring down fevers, too. You can use ice

packs wrapped in towels but that usually results in the shivers.

Hope she eats ok and enjoys today! I just loved all the pics you sent! She is so

awesome!!

Beth,

has taken so many and very little helped. Other's she was

allergic to. What we do for Fevers is

Juice and Rest. If the Fever get's higher than 100 then she get's so sick

and I do the Alcohol rubs. By taking the Alcohol and a wash rag to load it and

rub. I know the smell is awful but it does reduce fevers. Doing the Warm Tub

and then add some Ice to cool it also will break a Fever. I remember when My

Sister had a fever of 104 and the ER techs put her in a tub of Ice and poured

Alcohol in it. It broke the fever. They do get the Shivers.

As for Pain, Take a Towel and put in the Dryer or a Microwave and heat it

up then wrap the painful area. A Electric Throw may help as well. Doing the

Parafin Wax is good. You might try this as it is old School as they say. Take

a White tube sock and put Corn Meal in it. Fill it good leaving enough room

to tie a knot in it.

Take a Frying skillet out and heat it up. Lay the Corn meal sock in it.

Allowing it to heat up by turning it over several times. Try not to burn it

lololol. You may be able to use the Microwave to heat it up as well. Lay it on

the

painful area.

Thru all the years with . I have tried just about everything. I

even bought a Portable SPA that you put on the side of the tub and she has

used it alot.

Ummm Hears some more Old School

Fever's ----- Take a piece of Ice and put on the skin between the thumb and

index finger. This will lower a Fever.

Fever's ---- Take the foot and rub the foot outwards with Ice. Rub the

instep and the balls of the foot.

Fever's ---- Take a Zip lock bag and fill with Ice and lay the bag under the

foot to lay on. do not stand on the ice but allowing the foot on the ice.

Fever ---- Good ole Chicken Broth with Soda Crackers does wonders. If

nothing but drinking the Chicken broth it does help. Natures way.

Fever ------ Take a Wash rag and pour Alcohol on it and lay on the forehead.

Making sure the Alcohol does not run into the eyes or mouth or ears.

Fever ----- Taking the good ole Castol Oil and rubbing it on the neck and

tummy. Lordy 's Grandma use to do this as she said it helped her kid's.

Pain ------ Rubbing the foot with Winter Green Alcohol. Heel to toes.

Pain------- Taking Vaseline or A and D ointment using 1 tablespoonful and

add 2 Headache powders mixing these together to where it becomes a gritty paste

and rub on the painful area. You can crush Motrin as subsituting.

Pain ------- Taking the skin between the thumb and index finger with the

other hand and rubbing this area should help relieve pain.

Pain ---- Avon has this cream out for Pain. My Hubby has Neuropathy and he

uses this cream alot. It cost's 5.00 per tube.

Pain ------ I have plenty more of thing's to try and we will try most all of

them til one helps.

If all else falls just ask what part is hurting and hit the other side

at least that side will not hurt anymore

but you have to try all this on the other side lololololololol. Ok, that was

a Joke. As I have to have some kind of Humour since there's a lot of times I

am at whits ends.

Making a Cup of Tea with Yellow Root is good every Day. As many I know

will say whatever Ails you Drink the Yellow root.

Hi Beth,

This has been one of our greatest challenges for Aundrea's. Once you

no longer have NSAIDS as a course of pain treatment you aren't left

with very many options. Tyelenol did nothing to help drea. We did

try tylenol arthritis...also didn't see much benefit.

I know there are stronger pain meds..narcotics, but we haven't tried

those.

If your doc suggests something let us know.

glad to hear that Hannah came through the procedure ok. Keep us

posted on the results.

They tried my father on it when he was about 80 for pain from diabetic

neuropathy and it really knocked him for a loop. It caused dizziness, sedation

and depression in him. Neurontin was originally developed for epilepsy and has

a lot of side effects, just be aware.

a thanks for the reply. I had heard they used it for diabetic neuropathy and many people are on it for that situation. It has definitely thrown me for a loop this morning. We are titrating it up every 3-5 days to be to a total of 2700 mg a day. I just took a 100 mg last night and am trashed. I will be calling the pain management guys on Monday. I wonder if the body will adjust the more I take it. I can not tell you what brings them on. There is no rhyme or reason. But they occur every day and can last for hours on end or for shorter periods of time. Sometimes a whole lot worse than others. At night if they occur I am taking 100 mg of tramadol then waking up 3-4 hours in pain again and taking another 100mg at 4 hour intervals. It takes the edge off but doesn't cut it much. Tramadol was working but now just takes the edge off and I am miserable when it hits. They do not want to put me on narcotics because of my gastroparesis. If it was a very small adrenal tumor not visible on ct would it cause this kind of pain? The pain is not over my kidney area though. I just took 100mg last night I can't imagine being on 2700 mg would be like. I am definitely calling the pain med guys on Monday. I went to a pain clinic yesterday because of my terrible left sided abdominal pain. They put me on a drug called neurontin. I took the first dose last night this morning I woke up feeling like I had been run over by a mac truck. I am exhausted and have the spacey head feeling. Has anyone dealt with this drug?
