Guest guest
Hi Carol, It is common for those on NSAIDs to develop esophagitis or gastric reflux as well as irritation to the stomach lining. I would think that the liquid Naproxen isn't going to do much for this - as it is an NSAID and as likely to cause irritation in liquid form as in pill form - it will just be easier for her to swallow than the pill. If this continues, I would ask the doc for a med used to treat esophagitis or reflux - because continued irritation to the esophagus or stomach can lead to more serious problems. Val Rob's Mom (10,systemic) bummer...my dd developed Esophagitis Well, most likely that is what it is. Ever since she took her aleve pill she had been having pain mid chest area in her esophagus yesterday. She barely was able to eat her lunch it hurt too much. Dinner I made her a shake. So I called the dr. and because she woke up still hurting too much to eat she's to be on a liquid/soft food diet for 2 wks. Hurts to even eat yogurt. I'm going to have to go out and buy some ensure and protein drinks for her. She is so so tiny as it is she can't afford to loose any weight on a liquidish diet. The aleve caused irritation in her esophagus...I'm not sure if it got stuck there going down or what. I myself can't take aleve because of the number it does on my stomach...and motrin I can only handle for a short time. So I imagine if the pill did not make it to her stomach and was lodged halfway down it probably was very very irritating to the lining of her esophagus. Ugh. Anyway, the dr. sent in a perscription of naproxen suspension. Hopefully that'll help the esophagus pain along with the joint pain. Carol Stay informed, get connected and more with AOL on your phone. Guest guest
I have had Esophagitis many times, poor thing, that hurts bad! Ask her doctor to prescribe Carafate. You take it 30 minutes before you take any of your medications and it coats the stomach, so when you do take it the stomach and esophogous are protected. It did help some. Guest guest
Carol, first I hope she is feeling better soon. I can’t imagine this kind of pain. Have you considered that this may be a food allergy type reaction? I had a friend whose husband had swallowing issues & pain develop over time to the point where he was doing only liquids. He finally had a doc look at everything and they did allergy testing. He had a lot of food allergy reactions and to treat the throat, they used Flonase or something of the sort, straight into the throat. It helped reduce the swelling and protect the lining of the throat from more irritation. Just a thought, hoping it could be something easier to deal with than esophagitis. Thinking of you guys.
