Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I haven't posted in so long but do read your post and wish good health to all here. was diagnosed with systemic JRA at age 12, he's now 16. Enbrel and methotrexate were working pretty well but towards the end of the school year he started to lose weight and wasn't feeling well. The Rheumy was the one who felt something was definetly going on and ordered a specialized blood test which was sensitive for Crohns. We saw a GI doctor who did more testing and proceedures, colonscopy and endoscopy and the capsule study. It came back positive for Crohns. He switched to Humira a few months ago and has gained back the 20 lbs he lost. He had some breakthrough symptoms so instead of taking the humira every 2wks, he takes it every 10 days. It seems to be working. One other thing that was found via the testing was that he was very deficient in Vitamin D, which is common for crohns patients. Lack of vitamin D can cause muscle pain and weakness, so he takes a daily supplement. All in all, he is doing well. He started junior year in High School and is looking at college options. I think it's interesting how once you have one auto-immune disease it is not uncommon to get another. The immune system is such a complicated thing. Best to all.
