Hi ... lurker here with a question ... my daughter is on humira & mtx and has

recently added celebrex. She's been on it about a week and has now started have

diarrhea. Has anyone else had this happen to their kids? It's not one of the

" main " side effects but is listed in the multitude of possibles. She doesn't

appear sick otherwise (flu bug wise that is). Any thoughts??

My daughter has been taking it for at least 8 years so sadly I can't remember

back to the beginning. It may or may not be related to the Celebrex. Sometimes

we can eat something or have some mild virus that causes abdominal issues. If it

is not severe I would just watch and wait. Make sure she stays hydrated and if

it becomes more of an issue or obviously if it causes you alarm call your

doctor. If it is related to the Celebrex it will likely subside in time as her

stomach gets used to the medication. Is she taking it with food? If not, she

should eat something with it. It is better absorbed with food than on an empty

stomach and will cause less discomfort.

I hope your daughter feels much better and the diarrhea resolves. The Celebrex

has made a big difference with my daughter's pain levels. She wasn't sure it was

helping until she tried to stop it and quickly found out that it indeed helps.

Note: I have had about 10 years of experience with the disease with my daughter

and I am a RN but as always if you are truly concerned call your clinic and

check in with them. And keep her hydrated--you can try a bland diet to--the good

old BRAT one--Bananas, rice, applesauce, tea and toast--to see if that makes a

difference.

I have never taken Celebrex. However, Motrin and Diclofenac (nsaids) both give

me diarrhea. So, I guess it is possible.
