Guest guest
when my daughter was on mtx pills she took them at night, I found they made her tired so night was best and she had them after supper , I was never told if it mattered or not about eating food first but she did have hers always after supper. it can be hard on the stoamche so I assume it can't hurt to have something to eat first . > > Do you take your Mtx pills in the morning or at night? Guest guest
PM Friday night, so they have the weekend to get over side effects. MTX shots anytime any day.Pills are like Russion Roullete. You may give a certain dose oraly but your child most likely is getting much less. EX your child takes 15mg MTX oraly, the body may only absorb 5mg. Given in shot form your child gets the entire dose and as said, it goes through the liver once not twice.A little over a decade ago it was common to HAVE to get liver biopsies after every gram of MTX.You really need to treat your child like they had Cancer.Slam it hard, get control, then reduce. My own son was diagnosed at two with SOJRA and we thought we were going to lose him.His disease hit so hard and heavy that we had a diagnosis in three weeks but had to wait another three weeks to start DMARD treatment. We bombarded him before age four and it put him in a medicated remission. At 6 he had a set back from taking him off the MTX but put him back on and waited .Years of medicated remission went by and now he is 2 months drug free. He has played baseball for 7yrs and played football yr before last.He can do anything he wants as long as HIS body says it is ok.This summer he is trying out for his middle school football and baseball team. You have to stay calm,be patient, learn all you can, and pray for the best.Try not to worry about drug side effects, but getting results NOW.Worry about the what if's later. The cure will come and there is already cures for unforseen side effects. Guest guest
Our rheumy had us give the MTX on an empty stomach when my son was on the pills. She said it doesn't get absorbed as well when taken with food. He was taking 4 pills total, so she had us give it to him in 2 separate doses. 2 pills with water only (no milk) at bedtime (at least 2 hours after eating anything) on Friday night, then the other 2 with water 8 hours later early Saturday morning and then let him fall back asleep to reduce side effects. She said that there were studies done showing that it was the best way to get the maximum results from the pills. That being said, my son's arthritis wasn't getting better with the MTX pills. She eventually switched him to the maximum dose of MTX in the shots instead. I totally agree with Becki, the shots have helped tremendously! Our rheumy also mentioned that it is better for the liver as well. fought me on the shots at first, he's always been terrified of needles and has lots of anxiety when it comes to any poking...even a finger poke. He's much better about it now, in fact, his feelings about the shots have changed a ton. They've changed so much that when he had to skip a dose 2 weeks ago from having a fever, he ended up having a lot of pain in his knees. I don't think it was caused from missing one shot, but he was convinced it was and couldn't wait until the next Friday so he could have one! That's how much it has made him feel better!! & , 12, poly From: sojramom@... Date: Thu, 7 Apr 2011 21:19:58 -0700 Subject: Re: Re: Mtx pills - AM or PM?
