Guest guest
Hi Sharon, You can only take so many precautions with any child whether they have something wrong with them or not. It sucks that we cannot keep our kids in a bubble and protect them from everything , but they get sick and we just have to do the best we can to get them better when that happens. The medications that our kids are on does make it much easier for them to catch whats going around and makes it harder for them to get better. If he does get sick let your doctor know but treat him like your other kids if he gets sick. Its really all you can do. Take care, and hope he does not get sick too. , mom to Sophe 6 yrs old, jia and iga deficiency > > Hi everyone! > > Happy Friday. Guest guest
Sharon, I am more careful with my big ole 14 year old, because of the immuno- supression. He did get strep last fall which turned into scarlet fever and made him sick for almost 2 weeks. So he may not be AS immunosuppressed, but he is a little guy. I'd be careful and keep him as far away from dad as I could. seems to catch each " bug " that comes around. He is on Humira. Also, if he starts running a fever with strep in the house, I'd be eager to get him tested. He is too young to complain of a sore throat. 's strep started as strange little blisters instead of the white spots, by the way. I am not sure if you know this, but undiagnosed and untreated strep is dangerous. If the bacteria is not treated it can cause vegetations on the heart valves, among other things. Better be safe than sorry. Hopefully, all of you will avoid the strep. No kissing Dad! Guest guest
Hi...my daughter (non-JIA child) gets strep fairly often and ...who is on Enbrel and mtx, so immune suppressed...has never gotten it. They are now 7 and 9...and do share things like water bottles sometimes. They are very close so they play together as well. Our pedi is so good because if I call...she will see him that day. For us, since 's treatment started and his disease has gotten under control...he gets sick much less than before...even with being immune suppressed. Prior to his dx and treatment we were at the pedi all the time...literally at least once a month. was 'virus velcro'...he got every bug going around...supposedly anyway. I feel the 'viruses' were actually signs of his JIA as he always presented with very high fevers. I have found that now that we are two years post diagnosis I have calmed down quite a bit. The first six months or so after he was dxed I called the rheumy's nurse and our pedi over everything. It's a learning curve thing for us... I wouldn't be overly concerned but if in doubt...take him to the pedi if you have any questions. & , 7.5, poly...nystagmus...SPD.... Guest guest
My oldest child is on Remicaid for crohn's disease. I guess the best precaution is good hand washing and the use of hand sanitizer. You may also want to wash the dishes in warm sudsy water with just a touch of Clorox in it. Hope you and your son don't get the strep too!!! Teri - pauci in remission > > Hi everyone! > > Happy Friday.
