Guest guest
Hello, My daughter recently had her first steroid injections in the jaw and everything went fine. However, she seems to be more restless than usual and is having difficulty sleeping and sitting still. Her teachers have all noticed it as well and she's getting in trouble at school because of it. I was just wondering if the steroid could be causing this as it coincides with when her change in behavior started. Has anyone had any similar occurrences? I'm going to ask the Oral Surgeon about it tomorrow, but when we originally asked about side effects both the Oral Surgeon and the Rheumy said there would be none. Of course, these side effects are easier to deal with than damage to her jaw, but I'm concerned about how long her unusual behavior is going to continue. Thanks, Jen (Iz, extended oligo,5)
Guest guest
Not sure if there is really a connection, but when my daughter had a steroid injection in her knee after she was first diagnosed with pauci, we definitely saw " steroid " like behavior. I was well familiar with the restlessness and difficulty sleeping from my son's interactions with oral steroids (asthma). I can't remember how long K's reaction lasted now .... not all that long in the grand scheme of things ... maybe a few days? with the difficult behavior eventually tapering off. Of course, she was much older than your daughter. But I definitely remember a reaction. How long ago was the shot? The drs. didn't really seem to willing to admit that it was possible to have a systemic reaction at first, but conceded that there was a possibility that could have been leakage of the steroid out of her joint. I hope the steroid injection helps your daughter immensely - poor baby to have one in her jaw!
