Guest guest
my daughter has had gi issues since she was abotu 1 yr old , I have celiac and colitis and my mom has crohns so we investigated her tummy troubles about a year agi now. The gi doc said she has an irritable bowel and to keep her away from foods that tend to irritable her tummy, her triggers are cheese, milk, chocolate, fruit juices. She follows a 90% gluten free diet because its just her and I and its easier for me to only cook one meal and it seems to help her tummy trouble as well. He did say that she may develop celiac in the future but as of right now she is ok . It seems like gi issues go along with other immune issues. it is never wrong to follow your gut and have it checked out, there is so many things that is can be and it cannot hurt to maybe keep a record of the foods he eats before his tummy pain and at least see your ped. Good Luck , Sophie 6 yrs old, jia , iga deficiency , autism. > > > Hey everyone! > > So Bradley had his Rheumy appointment last week and all his joints look great as well as his eyes! No flares and we are doing well! Ophtho wants to keep him on Mtx and Humira for at least the next year so we'll have to just kind of bide our time but I have no worries there. > What I am wondering about today is if Bradley has some GI issues going on. Ever since he was an infant, he had GI issues. He had SEVER reflux as a baby and was on Prevacid for a while. Fast forward, he has stomach aches almost every day. He will come home from school and say he couldn't eat all his lunch because his stomach started hurting. Or after dinner or during dinner he asks to be excused because his stomach is hurting. I am just starting to wonder if it is the meds or if he is having GI stuff going on. When he was a baby he did have an Upper GI done and it didn't show anything so we figured he was fine but now I'm not so sure. I am thinking I need to call his Ped or should I call his Rheumy? What kind of tests would they do on him? I hate for him to have anything invasive done but I just feel so bad for him that he is having these stomach aches!! He does take his Leucovorin faithfully after every injection so I don't know if maybe we need to up his dosage? I am just not sure. I ask all of you with your experience, what should I look in to? > > Thanks everyone and hope you have an amazing rest of the week! > > marie (mommy to Bradley-ANA+, Uveitis and Oligo) and ready to pop this baby girl out!! >
Guest guest
marie,My son nie went through the same thing. I'm convinced that his severe infant reflux was somehow related to the jra but I don't know how. His stomach issues have declined in the past two years - he's 7. But I have no explanation and none of our docs have ever been able to explain the connection to me. I know this isn't any practical help to you but I will be anxious to read any other responses. Guest guest
Kaylee had some GI issues to for a while and occasionally they come back, but do not get bad. Kaylee has stomach aches a lot too. She did prevacid for a while when she was taking mobic and other NSAIDS. She had blood work done and some tests and they came back ok. I think contacting both rheumy and ped would be the best thing to do and go from there. I always research all my options. Hope things improve. and Kaylee Stomach aches? Hey everyone! Guest guest
Hey marie, Great news on the eyes/joints. I'm so sorry that Bradley is having tummy aches. So unfair. FWIW, in addition to having the pauci/uveitis child, I also have a GERD child who has weathered 2 fundos and has taken about every reflux med available for children or adults. This doesn't particularly feel like GERD to me on first glance, although you never now and I am certainly not a dr! I think that your best bet is to talk to the rheumy first about whether he needs an increase in the anti-nausea meds. We were always increasing C's reflux meds as he grew. Has Bradley grown a lot lately? Gained weight? Is he complaining of pain in his shoulder or gunk in his throat or just his stomach? I'd also keep a food diary to see if Bradley is reacting to something or there is a pattern in what is happening. Dairy? Stress at school? Worry about the new baby? If you end up needing a GI, let me know, because I have very strong opinions about the CHOC GI drs. We've spent a lot of time with them. And let me know when that baby girl pops out!!
