Guest guest
How high of a fever?Never mind I see the 100.6. 's ped ALWAYS wanted him to come in if the temp hit 100 but due to the vaccine I would call first unless you have no trouble with time off work and co pays. After over 9 yrs of fighting with old man Arthur,I agree that the fever is not high enough to stop meds.I know Mass is very scary but is also rare.A site like this is usually the sickest looking for help.Take a deep breath, calm your nerves and watch and wait.I understand it is hard but you have to take care of yourself also. I don't know how your Doctors feel but Dr. Lovell at Cincinnati Childrens doesn't hold off unless something like the flu.BTY he did all the original studies by the NIH for almost all of the Biologicals. Becki and 12 SoJRA drug free since Feb7 " This date is imprinted in my brain " ________________________________ From: nn <rosannwinn@...> Sent: Thu, April 14, 2011 8:54:57 PM Subject: a little bit worried Hi all, We gave the pneumonia vaccine yesterday (it's not a live vaccine) and about 24 hours later she started running a fever. The handout said that fever happens in 1% of the people who get the vaccine. She also has fairly painful muscle pain in that leg, also a 1% possibility side effect. We talked to the ped and the ped rheumy and both have said to not hold the Kineret shot tonight, or the Methotrexate shot tomorrow. The fever isn't high - it started at 99.3 after school and is now up to 100.6. But this is the first fever has had since starting Kineret back in September - believe it or not!! Has anyone here given their child the pneumonia vaccine and seen a similar side effect? Also, does anyone have any experience with vaccines triggering a flare - or worse, is there any worry about it triggering MAS in systemic? isn't acting very sick and it's probably just a " blip " as the rhuemy said and I pray she's fine in the morning. But it's hard not to worry. Once upon a time if either of my children had a low grade fever I looked at it as the body fighting off a virus - a good thing, a natural response. Things are so different now. Thanks much, nn (, 10, systemic)
Guest guest
I have never in all of my reading- and trust me I have read a ton about MAS- read anything about a vaccine triggering MAS. I do know a friend who got pretty sick from the pneumonia vaccine for a day or two. I have no personal experience with the vaccine. Me and mine have never gotten it. Guest guest
knows her stuff. She has been around the block several times and yes her systemic daughter had to fight for her life from MAS. The thing is, this was not shortly after diagnosis but several yrs later. ________________________________ From: Price <bc.price@...> " " < > Sent: Fri, April 15, 2011 12:01:21 AM Subject: Re: a little bit worried I have never in all of my reading- and trust me I have read a ton about MAS- read anything about a vaccine triggering MAS. Guest guest
Thank you for the responses Becki and . Sorry if my question seemed too minor to post here. We've only had to do flu vaccines since 's onset of JIA so I hadn't read anything about other vaccines and flares, etc. I assumed it wouldn't trigger MAS but I thought I'd just ask in case I was missing something. 's had some pretty strong vaccine reactions in the past (before JIA) and so it doesn't surprise me that she's having a pretty bad local reaction to this vaccine. She can hardly walk on her left leg and the fever has not subsided and got up to 101.9 last night. I'm hoping it will taper off today. I talked to Children's and they said to call back if it lasts past 72 hours after the shot. Thanks again. nn > > > How high of a fever?Never mind I see the 100.6. > > 's ped ALWAYS wanted him to come in if the temp hit 100 but due to the > > vaccine I would call first unless you have no trouble with time off work and co > > > > pays. > > After over 9 yrs of fighting with old man Arthur,I agree that the fever is not > > > high enough to stop meds.I know Mass is very scary but is also rare.A site like > > > > this is usually the sickest looking for help.Take a deep breath, calm your > >nerves > > > > and watch and wait.I understand it is hard but you have to take care of > >yourself > > > > also. > > I don't know how your Doctors feel but Dr. Lovell at Cincinnati Childrens > > doesn't hold off unless something like the flu.BTY he did all the original > > studies by the NIH for almost all of the Biologicals. > > Becki and 12 SoJRA drug free since Feb7 " This date is imprinted in my > > brain " > > > > ________________________________ > > From: nn <rosannwinn@...> > > > > Sent: Thu, April 14, 2011 8:54:57 PM > > Subject: a little bit worried > > > > Hi all, > > We gave the pneumonia vaccine yesterday (it's not a live vaccine) and > > about 24 hours later she started running a fever. Guest guest
Your question wasn't too minor. No question is. And MAS can present at disease onset. The thinking is that way more kids get MAS than originally thought. Maybe, all of them at some time have the laboratory signs, but not the physical signs. So it is important to have regular labs drawn. Personally, we have never gotten n another immunization after diagnosis. Be it right or wrong, that is our personal decision.
