Good evening, everyone!

Once again, thank you all for the welcomes - I'm so glad I've found this group.

I'm hoping that some of y'all may have some ideas to help us out with a

difficulty.

was just started on methotrexate last week (0.3mL once a week) in addition

to his Prelone. He's taking the methotrexate orally (and is doing fine with it

so far). His rheum. would like for us to add in a folic acid supplement to help

with some of the methotrexate side effects. The difficulty is 's age - 16

months old. None of the standard OTC liquid vitamins have folic acid. Usually

our rheum. recommends one Flintstone chewable a day but doesn't have

enough teeth yet to really do a good job chewing it. I've been scouring the web

trying to find a liquid vit that would have a decent amount of FA in it but not

having a lot of luck. Most of the liquid vites seem to have maybe half of the

FA as a My First Flintstones pill and you need to give them close to 1 or 2 Tbsp

of the stuff. :(

So tonight I broke down, crushed the pill and mixed it in a spoon of flavored

applesauce. The down side was it was pretty much a force feed of the

applesauce. He's never been a kid for purees or applesauce. I even tried

chocolate pudding last night and he turned his nose up at the pudding (even sans

vitamins in it - not my child if he's turning down chocolate... ;O) ).

Does anyone know of a good alternative to get him the FA or other tricks so that

maybe it doesn't always have to be a force feed? Or is that just the best way

to do it right now and hope that eventually he gets to be okay with taking it in

food?

Thanks so much for any ideas!

Cheers.

Sharon (, systemic, 16 months old)
