Guest guest
Gayle.... Thanks for the words of encouragement, they mean alot... You it was really funny how we found cause I have a thyroid problem, and I had went in to get a check up my dr did some blood work and noticed my liver count was kinda high, she didnt think much about it, but, then when she rechecked it about a month later my liver count was still high and so that is when she did the blood work for hep. So, when they called me and told me over the phone i wigged out. I have been ready alot of the side effects of the treament, i am kind of worried, I dont sleep much as it is, the whole depression thing worries me, and the biggest thing is doing the injection part of treatment myself I hate needles as it is...so I dont know. But, I am glad I was able to find a support group, I really would like to find a local one too. I know that giving up certian stuff to stay healthy is a plus, but, man, it seems like you are having to give up life to sirvive. I guess, th emore I learn about this the better i will start feeling, i think.. Again, thank you for your nice words... You aren't trashy or dirty, you were just unlucky enough to contract a disease that believe it or not is NOT that easy to pass on if you know you have it! It's unlikely you got it from a sexual encounter but possible so you can't rule it out. You'd both have to have an open wound or you'd have to be on your period...and he with an open sore, etc. I've been with my husband for 14 years and he does not have hcv, yet I've had it for 20 or more years. You can get it through unsanitary tatt parlors (especially those tattoo parties that are so big these days), piercings, anything with contaminated blood on it. As for treatment people react differently to it. I've heard some talk about how aweful it is and how sick they get, but I have very few side affects and they're mild. Don't give up Tammy. If there are a few things you must live without it's because they probably weren't good for you to begin with. Drugs, booze... First and foremost find a good doctor (and staff) who will take time to answer your questions regarding hcv and it's treatment. It's not the end of the world, it's the beginning of a healing proccess. ;-) Gayle hi tammy......well i dont think that u could have gotten it though sex since hep c is not a std and they havent prove that it can be after 20 years of trying to prove it can be transmitted that way.The tattoo could be a way of transmission but so could any puncture wound in theory.I had hep c for 30 years and possible longer than that and didnt even know it.I was married 22 years. My x and my x-girlfriends do not have it. I guess you could pass it on though sex if the person who has it bleeds then some how cuts you with a blood stained object.I guess what Im trying to say is that you can catch a cold though sex but a cold is not a STD which is a the same with hep c.Also I don't see the huge danger of the diease, they make it out to be. If only 5% of people die from it,thats pretty good odds it wont kill me if I take care of myself. anyway it is a confessing diease and all the decision you must make on you own. That's exactly how I found out.... my doc suspected a thyroid problem, did the blood work and found the hep. Most doctors will recommend an anti-depressant before starting treatment, and if they don't be sure and ask about it. In fact write down every little question you have and take it with to your first appointment. ;-) I kinda wondered what those injections were going to feel like myself. lol Fact is the needle is so fine you barely feel it at all, and the doc's staff can and will show you how to do it. If not, find another doctor. My brother always says " Doctors are just like anyone else. Guest guest
Tammy, Hep C does not transfer with sex, unless you are a gay man, where blood is part of the game. In addition to sharing needles, Hep C has a variety of other ways to get into you. When you stress your liver to its limits (with alcohol or even with some prescription drugs), it can become weak and susceptible to the virus taking hold. About 10-20% of the people who catch Hep C self-cure without even knowing that they had Hep C and obviously without any treatment! The other 80% get medical treatment based on viral genotype. Are you taking any prescription medications? Any vitamins or herbal supplements? You can also get Hep C from getting shots in medical facilities--though it is very rare, there is still, to this day, a 1- 2% chance that you catch the virus from something like this in a medical center or hospital. You might revisit your history for the past few years to see what may have happened--particularly if it is caused by prescription or over-the-counter medications! Good luck! I have had Hep C for over 30 years and just now am thinking about treatment... Guest guest
No, I do not know my genotype. How do you figure tht out is that what the biospy is for? I am taken medications for my thyriod and hrmones(due to a hystictuim). See, I am so confused with this whole thing. I just know that I am very scared to death of the whole thing. I have been reading everyones emails and I keep hearing how the treatments are very stressful. If and when I start taking treatment should I planning on missing a bunch of work? Guest guest
I'd definitely get the biopsy, it'll tell you what genotype you are and if there's damage to your liver plus other crazy numbers and words that will confuse the crap out of you. Make sure your doc or his staff explains all those things to you when you go in for the followup on the biopsy. You've really worked yourself into a tizzy and that's so normal Tammy. Relax girl and take it one step at a time. You won't know how the treatment (tx) will affect you until you're on it so try not to worry about step 97 when you're only on step 2. ;-) May I ask what line of work you're in? Guest guest
I'm not trying to argue but there's quite often blood involved in heterosexual intercourse and it's not uncommon at all for a hard pounding to draw a little blood from a woman. Guest guest
Kudos to you! And then there is always transmission in heterosexual couples when the man shaves his penis for more sensitivity - god, I cannot believe I am writing this - but it is true. Guest guest
Gayle, Thanks, for being so real!!! You know I guess the biggest thing is the unknown, and that is what this is a big unknown!!!! I work for the legal dept for UPS for special accounts I am on the phone and in front of a computer all day. Gayle <mollydamaula@...> wrote: I'd definitely get the biopsy, it'll tell you what genotype you are and if there's damage to your liver plus other crazy numbers and words that will confuse the crap out of you. Guest guest
Tammy When your doctor ordered blood tests he or she should have checked for genotype. Call and ask - the chances of successful treatment vary a lot by genotype from 50% - 80%. The ultra sound can't show the real damage inside the liver and only scans the surface for growth, etc. It is good they found nothing. I think it can also pretty much eliminate advance cirrhosis as the liver would be different in size and shape. Biopsy is strongly recommended as it is a gold standard, however, you can do blood tests like Fibrosure and Fibrospect II to closely approximate what's going on with the liver. They are quite reliable when there is little to no damage or a lot, but not so when in the middle. New Member > > > > Just two weeks ago tht I have been diagnosed with hcv. Guest guest
Konstantin, I think, this blood work I had done on last thurs, might have been for that , All I know they took a lot of blood this time. What is genotype, is that basically the stage of hepC you have, is the that the right undestanding I am getting from reading when people talk about genotype? I feel really stupid cause I don't know anything, or the meaning of anything. I am learning though. Thanks for the good advise.
