I think it can also pretty much eliminate advance cirrhosis as the liver would be different in size and shape. Biopsy is strongly recommended as it is a gold standard, however, you can do blood tests like Fibrosure and Fibrospect II to closely approximate what's going on with the liver. They are quite reliable when there is little to no damage or a lot, but not so when in the middle. New Member > > > > Just two weeks ago tht I have been diagnosed with hcv. Guest guest
That's a fact Tammy, until you have some insight on what's to come it can be very frightening! Just remember that most of the people here have been where you are and we're still here and doing ok for the most part. I took my 3rd injection yesterday and feel fine this morning aside from being awake at 3am. lol Actually I'd still be sleeping but one of the dogs needs their nails trimmed badly! I think I'd use a week's vaca time if you have any and take the first week of treatment off just to deal with going through it the first time. It can be mentally taxing because once again, you're at a point where you don't know what to expect. Also most people have their worst reaction with the first shot, or so many have said. It was that way for me. Do yourself a favor and talk to your doc about anti-depressants if you start feeling overwhelned or depressed. Your job has to be rather stressful unless you're good at handeling people (I'm not. lol) and meds may help you to cope. ;-) I hope all this helps you out a bit. Keep in touch! Guest guest
Agreed. I can still remember when aids came out and everyone talked about how it only affected homosexuals and iv drug users and believed it! I suppose it's the same for any disease that lasts a lifetime, it scares people because there's no cure and it spreads daily. People WANT it to only affect the group they aren't a part of because it makes them feel safe. On a more personal note I was not a good girl in my younger days, how is it I don't recall that many hairy penis's in the world? lmao Sorry, I shouldn't laugh about the things we humans do but have the giggles this morning. I do understand the concept of shaving for enhanced pleasure.... it just struck me as funny. lol Gayle I'm not trying to argue but there's quite often blood involved in > heterosexual intercourse and it's not uncommon at all for a hard > pounding to draw a little blood from a woman. > Sorry if I'm a little too graphic but that statement makes the point > crystal clear. > There's also the menstrual cycle to consider because not all men are > scared off by blood. > Gayle > stanfordsumi <no_reply@> wrote > > > > Hep C does not transfer with sex, unless you are a gay man, where > > blood is part of the game. > > > > > > > > Spammers and security have forced me to abandon my first email account, michellerides@... so I am asking everyone to use my new gmail account in the future. amwmoore@... > > Thanks so much > Anne Welty > > --------------------------------- > Looking for a deal? Guest guest
Gayle, Again, thanks for the wonderful advise. Yes, my job can be very stressful,(today a good example lol)Well, I should be hearing from my dr office tomorrow about my test results. You know I have decided to make this alot eaiser to deal with I need to get all the negative things out of my life. Like the unsupportive boyfriend, and so on. I have already started making plans on how I am going to change my life for the better, changing eating habits and things of that nature, and make sure I live each day to the fullest. Is that bad for me to be thinking this way? again, thanks for all the words of encouragement, and advise.
Guest guest
Heck no it's not a bad way to think! You're talking about taking a bad situation and getting something positive from it, and that's a wonderful attitude! You'll do just fine Tammy. ;-) I've never had to deal with doctors and insurance on a regular basis and my biggest gripe is probably having to get people to do their jobs correctly. I'm not very good at depending on others to get things done. lol I went in to have blood drawn today for my first set of labs since starting treatment and learned that unless the diagnosis is on the order they won't do it. Thankfully they reached my doctor and he faxed it over or I'd have been driving the 30 miles back home just to go again tomorrow. :-/ Fashion Bug was on my route, so it wouldn't have been a total loss anyway. lol Let us know what the tests say tomorrow and remember,...try to not panic if there's something you don't understand or something that sounds scary! You know what I'm saying, one step at a time and research research research! Good luck! Guest guest
Gayle, In response to having to depend on others to do things for you I so relate. Being pregnant with Hep C and also a nurse and not even being able to lift a falling patient without yelling out for help down the hall is fustrating to say the least!! Getting a diagnosis for a lab lol doctors dont realize they have to give that stuff to us and when you try to tell then hey doc I need a diagnosis for that lab they usually have already hung up on you. Then you spend 2 hours getting through answering services or there receptionist tells you he is in with a patient. So It usually is not so much the people not doing there job right but the system that sucks!!! Health care is a paper trail most of the time. I have been a nurse since 1990 and it was so great fresh out of school we took care of the patient and noone asked about funding at least not at first but now you dont even get treatment without something. Talk about ironic I am a nurse on medicaid. I want to work so I work 4 hours a day trying to keep the bills paid and not lose the skills I learned in training. Everyone keeps telling me take a family medical leave. But truthfully I feel like I am the only one who really cares about the little people at the nursing home. I see so much swept under the table so I keep going in high blood pressure and all. Maybe I am doing myself and my patients a diservice but I know my heart is in the right place. Thanks for letting me vent!! New Member > > > > > > > > Just two weeks ago tht I have been diagnosed with hcv. I am > > really > > > not sure how i got it. Guest guest
Kudos to you for being diligent in your job! It's nice to know there's someone in your field who cares. I nearly gave up today and thought about quitting treatment because I've dealt with nothing but incompetence since starting and today I'd had just about all I could take. I gave the nurse the fax number to send the prescription order over to pharmacy last Tuesday, no problem right? I gave it 48 hours to clear then called to find out they had no order for me. Half the day went by before I discovered the nurse sent it to a different pharmacy (the one they use at that office) and never told me even though I'd spoken to her 3 times. I only found out because the pharmacy who did have the order called to tell me it was going to be more expensive through them. This is after my insurance company postponed my starting treatment for 3 weeks to look for the cheapest place to purchase it. I promptly told the man at pharmacy that it was too much G** Da**** money, I'm not paying it and my insurance company sure as HELL isn't going to accept that! At this point he is dealing with accounting to bring the price down but I won't hear anything until Monday. That leaves me a little over a week to get it all straightened out and the order shipped so there's no lapse in treatment. (YEah, so why am I on edge, right? lol) If on Monday it still isn't resolved I will put my husband on it and I can tell you.... he's not the one they want to deal with. He can be a real ball buster and never raise his voice. ;-) In conclusion I am now convinced that it isn't the treatment itself that causes some people to put a gun to their head, it's having to deal with insurance and members of the medical profession!! Now THAT'S venting! No offense intended to you , you sound very dedicated to your job and I respect that. Hats off to you. I've really just had it and believe it or not the doctor and staff I went to before this was even worse. Ugh... I need to just go to bed and not think about it until Monday rolls around. lol It's just so overwhelming some times. :-/ Nighters... I hope all is going well with the baby. Congratulations. ;-) Gayle > > > > > > > > > > hi tammy......well i dont think that u could have gotten it > > > though > > > > sex since hep c is not a std and they havent prove that it can > be > > > > after 20 years of trying to prove it can be transmitted that > > > way.The > > > > tattoo could be a way of transmission but so could any puncture > > > wound > > > > in theory.I had hep c for 30 years and possible longer than > that > > > and > > > > didnt even know it.I was married 22 years. Guest guest
Hello Tammy Its a great way to think! I am now a few weeks post tx. Whilst on tx I decided to take the opportunity to change some of my negative habits into good ones. I stopped drinking and started eating right. I was lucky in that the tx worked. I am now better off than before being diagnosed in that I am happier and healthier than ever and don't know how I could have treated my body so badly before. Guest guest
New member, Welcome to our group. Sorry you are in so much pain. What has helped me is Physical Therapy with gentle joint mobilization. I've never had chiropractic which I'm told uses a rougher joint manipulation. My spine doctor said my neck joints would not be able to tolerate this. My neck joints are arthritic and sore; I'm sure he was right. I'm also thinking that if you have not had an MRI in over 10 years perhaps you should have another one. Does your neck spasm when you use your arms? This could be because your neck muscles are spasmed already and any little stress on them makes it worse. Also could be because of arthritis in the upper neck joints. A sign of this is trouble turning the neck and also pain along the side of the upper neck. Whatever the problem, perhaps a consult with a spine doctor is in order and another MRI. The spine doctor should be able to refer you to a pain doctor specializing in spine pain and also PT. Hoping you can find some pain relief, Rochelle ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. I'll check the name but my Tens came with two gells. One was for better electrical contact, the other was to soothe the skin from irritation. Maybe those will help. Guest guest
Hi, rmp. Am wondering if you've had a recent MRI or even a basic x-ray, and had a doc that looked for osteophytes/bone spurs? Since your injuries and surgeries were several years ago, and the pain came back a little bit at a time (not suddenly or all at once), bone spurs might be the cause. Guest guest
Thanks for the feedback from Rochelle and others. I had an MRI around 2005. The neurosurgeon sais surgery wasn't necessary. My xrays show disc degeneration above and below my bone fusion at C 5-6. There is a small bone spur on C7. Any use of my arms at all causes irritation and pain. I hope this is a temporary flare up and eventually it will be under control again. Thanks for your support. > > New member, > Welcome to our group. Sorry you are in so much > pain. Guest guest
--Hi welcome to the group sorry for taking so long to welcome you I haven't had much time to be online lately. I had a neck and back fusion too. Have you tried using moist heat on your neck?? Do you get any relief from cold or heat??? I used to have a great thing that I warmed up in the microwave it was made with thera-beads and it put out a wonderful moist heat for quite a long time. It wrapped around my neck and attached in the front with velcro. Unfortunately I used it so much I eventually killed the poor thing so I need to get another one. Its was one of the best things I found for neck pain. HOpefully your pain will lessen with time and rest as much as possible. I know when my neck acts up or my back it takes forever it seems to get back to an lower pain level. I wish you luck, just keep trying whatever works best for you with time hopefully you will feel a little better. Again welcome to the group I am sure you will find many people with the same type of problems you have and maybe some other ideas on what to do to help with your pain. Best wishes. Guest guest
HI welcome to the group. NO you are not the first one to get worse with PT. I did that first after I started hurting and it made my pain so much worse I ended up needing surgery but it took me a long timeto get a dr to do it. I would suggest go back to your dr and demand an MRI even if you have to make the appt yourself you should not have to wait a month to have it done that is insane!!!!!!!! I wish you the best finding out what is wrong. But know you are not the only person who went from an active life (I used to ride 6 days a week) to barely being able to walk.
