Guest guest
" People without daily pain that interfers with their life don't really understand how hard it can be. Does anyone suffer from depression due to the stress of the chronic pain? " Hi Tami, When I first had my injury, I was very frustrated and learned quickly who not to talk to about my pain. There are a lot of people out there that think you have to be openly bleeding to death to be in real pain. That's why I found this group. I have taken anti depressants since my first surgery which I attribute to medication and constant pain. For 10 years after surgery, I had no pain and forgot about the fusion. Then in 2004, I had horrible pain like I did before surgery. Apparently, I have arthritis below and above the C5-6 fusion. Since then, I have been in pain off and on but it seems permanent now. I'm hoping to be able to get out of pain eventually and I take it one day at a time. > > Hi everybody. Unfortunately I'm joining the for the same reason as you > all. Guest guest
Welcome Tami, I started my back pain in early September of 2007. So, it has been about 5 months. I am on antidepressants and have been for years so they are not new to me. I have had to start taking the full dose now which I hate because they are so expensive and the generic does not work for me. I have a herniated disc in L5 and got a couple of epidurals which made matters worse. As for the sore hands, I have used my hands roughly in gardening, which is one of my passions. I have arthritis in my thumbs and finger joints. I have also used a computer since 1968 so I have been the carpal tunnel route. I have had surgery on both wrists for that and have a numb left thumb for a trigger finger surgery that went wrong. I used to be very active before the back started. I would walk my collie 1 mile every day at top speed at the crack of dawn. Now I have to tie the poor old guy out to go potty. And even that is a challenge. I am so bored that I could scream. I am getting so sick of TV. I love the computer but can not stay too long for the pain. I got a second hand office chair today and it is alot more comfortable. I just need hubby to saw off the back of my desk so that I can stretch my legs out and put them up. I long for the freedom of just getting up and going out on my own. That life is still very fresh in my mind. Acceptance of this whole mess is coming hard for me. I have a fragile hold on HOPE. If I can keep hope alive I will make it. But after 5 months of being locked in a chair, not being able to sleep in a bed and all the lost freedoms, it is getting hard. Hang in there. Guest guest
HI welcome to the group I am sorry to hear about your pain. I too suffered from L5-S1 sciatic pain for almost 7 yrs before I had a fusion done. Even now though it seems like it took the drs so long to figure out what to do I will have nerve damage and pain for the rest of my life. I had hoped after surgery it would be so much better but after going thru 3 back surgeries and a neck fusion I knew what my chances were. Trying to convince drs to do what needs to be done sooner would be better for so many people I think. I had the test done you speak of twice and no its no fun. What you might do is ask your dr to get you some extra medicine for that one day only thats what my dr did the last time and it helped alot. I wish you luck with your search for less pain but I know its not a fun road or a short one to journey on. Again welcome to the group. Guest guest
Hi Sharon its amazing how long it can go on and everyone profession thinks it is something different and of course there are some who think its all in your head. When I go to have a procedure I tell my co-workers that Im undergoing Medieval Medicine. You know? It doesnt seem like we have come all that way. That being said- it seems that this L5-S1 can manifest in a lot of ways- muscle spasms, nerve pain, radiculopathy, referred pain... not sure why the Docs seem to just stop with the MRI's. I have suggested MR neurographies to one of my Physical Medicine docs and he said it he never heard of it (and he is in DC and keeps getting cited as top MD in the Washingtonian). I have read about it online that numerous high profile Hospital systems in NY and California are doing it to find the nerve effected. So it almost seems that we patients are often more informed of what is going on with technology and what should be done as protocols than we encounter in our often 10 minute office visits with the Doctors in this area- maybe its all over. Anyway- today I see Dr. Toerge- an absolutely fantastic Osteopathic MD at town for my 3 month follow up. The problem is he is so good that it takes 3-4 months every time to see him! Isnt that sad. Anyway- I will keep on plugging.... thank you for your support. Re: New Member HI welcome to the group I am sorry to hear about your pain. Guest guest
Hi Sharon did the L5-S1 fusion at least allow you to have mobility back? Or more than before the surgery? Right now I cant walk far, cant swim- I can do mild range of motion in the pool. I used to run, speed walk, bike, hike. All that is gone right now. If I try to do those things it brings on terrible nerve pain in the sacrum radiating into the right foot. I just would like to be able to go on nice long walks again. I cant travel cause I cant sit for more than an hour without " freezing up " and making the nerve pain worse. Sitting on an airplane tends to be a horror show. Needless to say- havent gotten on one in over a year. Re: New Member HI welcome to the group I am sorry to hear about your pain. Guest guest
Hi, It always saddens me to hear pain has prevented someone from doing what they love. I think we are all in that boat! One thing is for sure, I am way more appreciative then I was in my " no pain days " . I would love to take my dogs for a walk, bring my 3 year old to the park, go to a movie with my older boys. We all just need to keep pushing along and hopefully one surgery, therapy, pain management procedure or medication will help us regain our life back. Hugs, > > Hi Sharon > did the L5-S1 fusion at least allow you to have mobility back? Guest guest
If you are on a budget, shop the internet. Local Health Food Stores have high prices. I buy Nutiva coconut oil at http://www.vitacost.com/Nutiva-Organic-Extra-Virgin-Coconut-Oil. It is not a great oil, but I can afford it when I am broke. Guest guest
I haven't had any VCO tested, just my taste buds. I've had Tropical Traditions, Omega, Wilderness Family Naturals centrifuged. Now I'm using Nutiva because of easy availability, and I like the jars it comes in. I can't tell any difference between Nutiva and the WFN centrifuged, in color, aroma, or flavor. sol Alobar wrote: > If you are on a budget, shop the internet. Guest guest
Alobar, Â You obviously have a handle on what's out there. So, this begs the question: Â When you're not on a budget, what are your top three favorite brands to purchase & why? Oh yea, and where have you found the best deals? Guest guest
Coconut water has too many carbs for a diabetic. I used to drink the tetra pack coconut water from WFN. It was the yummiest coconut water I had tasted. I once tried some powdered coconut milk from Tropical traditions. It tasted wretched to me. Grossly overcooked and burnt. When I have the cash, I shop from WFN. I like their products a lot. Centrifuged coconut oil is my favorite. Price is good when I could afford to get a 5 gallon pail. Pail is a pain to open, and I transferred it to smaller containers for convenience. If buying a 5 gallon pail in cold weather, it arrives as a solid lump. I open the pail when it is frozen to prevent spills, then I let it sit for a week before attempting to transfer it to smaller containers. Guest guest
Hello, just wanted to mention that if you use ebay that Tropical Traditions has a store and list of many of their coconut products there. Sometimes you can get the coconut oil much cheaper. > > Alobar, > > > > You obviously have a handle on what's out there. Guest guest
Hi Glo For me, the best is to watch for sales in various stores. I like Nutiva, probably the best as far as brands are concerned....I've used Fresh Shores, Tropical Traditions, Vitamin Shoppe Brand and Nutiva. The last time I bought some, I got Nutiva, 54 oz size, for $24 at The Vitamin Shoppe, on sale....no shipping cost. Georgia > New Member > > Hi! Guest guest
Do you usually have this in stock? And is it usually shipped quickly? I have some on order now, but will order from you next time if you ship right away. Guest guest
For me, the jury is still out. I like that it's resistant to high heat, as an alternative to olive oil and butter. I've tried to avoid other oils for the past couple years, but it's very difficult. I started taking a tablespoon of VCO in my tea in the morning and using it topically, but then I started to gain weight. So I stopped that and am just trying to find ways to substitute coconut oil for other oils. I've lost the weight gain and am stable now. I think it was an unwise calorie increase. Personally, the thing that gives me the most energy is EXERCISE! 30 minutes of walking/jogging in the morning and 30 minutes of light (almost aerobic) weight training in the late afternoon. Some people may need the thyroid boost that they say coconut oil provides, but I'm not one of them. Cheers and good health! S > > I am just investigating the benefit of coconut oil. Guest guest
Hello S A number of people have reported weight loss, not gain. I wonder if it might be worth trying it a bit longer and increasing the amount you consume to 3 Tbspns per day? It's up to you, of course. It's just a thought. I heard one lady say that she loved coconut oil so much that she was taking 6 Tbsp per day but she had to stop because she was losing too much weight.
