Guest guest
Your not Jennette? I absolutely belive in them. Especially for sciatica, shoulders, things like that. I have been to 6 different ones. But we are in maine, and there are less of the new age ones here. Mine are older middle agers. Went to Palmer school. There is some new age practices(chiro's) that mine tells me is a crock of you know what. I was almost dead when i landed at the chiro by accident. He took me from crawling and foaming to pretty much normal. Neck -Tmj issues. Not cured tho!But i had a severe thing, and it was a chiro when all the brainy docs missed it. He was the one who figured out I had a bad reverse curve. But they can make you feel worse after the adjustment. It will hurt more. As soon as i get adjusted, i also get more stiff. But have gone to another fellow, where my neck feels like its been greased! I'm not scared of them at all. When mine goes on vacation I see a fill in guy. Dr. Bob. Big happy type of guy. So he only sees me like twice a year. He does like his exam, and he always knows! Last time we went, he said " you hurt your knee " . He was absolutely RIGHT. I had hurt my knee and never mentioned it to any doctor. That was a riot. So he could tell by my low back etc, flexibility, that i had hurt my knee. Pretty astute. No way would my medical doc know my knee was hurt, unless i told him. You can not lie to a chiro(good one). I have tried to play tricks on mine. They know by feel. One thing i do admire about them too is THEY NEVER TELL YOU TO GET MORE EXERCISE!( love that) mine will say ordinary life should be exercise enough. > > Yes, we should all know what limitations the doctor advises. Guest guest
I'm 55 yr old, my mom took me to chiropractor when I was 15 and my lower back and neck were hurting. I hurt way worse after those treatments every time. When I was 23 I went to an osteopath, he xrayed my spine, diagnosed me with degenerative disc disease and osteoarthritis. He said manipulations of my spine wouldn't help. Osteopathic Doctors do manipulations for some people. I tried a couple of chiropractors when I was in my late 20's early 30's and they laid me up in bed for a day or more after. I never got any relief but was looking for relief. Since then I've had several mri's, osteoarthritis has formed a lot of bone spurs and other formations that impinge nerves and the spinal cord in several levels. I also have a few hemangioma's that involve the entire vertebral bodies. L-1 has fractured and is wedge shaped. I just wish people would be careful about letting anyone manipulate their spines when they don't know what's wrong to begin with. Guest guest
Lots of people say that jennette. I believe you. I think I hurt worse after too. It isnt for everyone. Like people with fusions go to mine, but you know if I had a fusion i would Not go to a chiro! BuT i have a weird condition where a dentist almost killed me. He pulled a tooth and when he did that he dislocated my jaw and pushed my Atlas way over. Reverse curve, but other than that all the discs are ok. I get lots of neurological problems from it, and my eyes drive me nuts. I make lots of typos and have ever changing vision. plus age eyes(50)Lots going on right between my ears( technically upper neck) but my neck doesnt hurt. Jaw problems too, so its impossible what is causing what, because tmj is so weird symptoms anyway. Thats the scoop on me. cindy > > I'm 55 yr old, my mom took me to chiropractor when I was 15 and my lower back > and neck were hurting. My MRIs look terrible - extensive bone spurs at C4-C7 and narrowing of nerve canals and spinal canal to where the disc is pancaked right against my spinal cord but not quite squeezing it. I've also had the burning pain in my neck, shoulders and upper back (lower back too but that's another problem - lumbar MRI is a mirror image of my neck MRIs) Then for several months I had such bad spasms in my neck that I couldn't turn my head at all. I finally went to a rheumatologist, who took pity on my, and put me on low dose prednisone for 3 months and physical therapy for 2 months. Well I got better to a point and I was on high dose Celebrex after the prednisone. The pain was mostly gone until I reacted to the Celebrex and had to go off it. The pain came back but not as bad. But as a result of the prednisone, I got instability in my shoulder joints (frozen shoulder) and two inflamed (maybe torn) rotator cuffs. He showed me an exercise for my shoulders called " shoulder blade fixation " While doing it at home in front of a mirror, I realized how very bad my posture was. The " shoulder blade fixation " when I looked at a side view of myself fixed my posture to something normal looking. (so I wasn't hunched over and my head jutting forward, which puts tremendous strain on the muscles at the back of the neck and upper back) Well I worked on the shoulder blade fixation and tried to be conscious every moment to keep my shoulders blades strong and together in back and my chest forward, which puts the head in the right alignment. Well after 2 or 3 months of this, my pain dissappeared. I am in less pain now than I had been in 30 years every since the accident that messed up my discs. > > > > Funny thing is with all the spine doctors, pain doctors (epidurals and facet joint injections and ablations), and PTs I went to for my neck no one ever said " YOUR POSTURE SUCKS AND THAT IS WHAT IS CAUSING YOUR PAIN " Everyone immediately thinks because they have bad looking MRIs that's why they are in pain. However, lots of people have bad MRIs but many don't have pain. Spinal degeneration is normal with age -- although I must admit, mine are a lot worse than most, but that's because I have diffuse developmental narrowing of the spinal canal precisely at the cervical and lumbar regions that give the most problems. > > > > In the shoulder blade fixation exercise, you pull your shoulder blades together in back and pull them down. ***The pulling down is most important part and takes a while to get the hang of. You can see that pull down in the mirror as the curve between neck and shoulder lowering. Then hold for 10 and repeat a few times. And then do this 2-3 times a day. And be conscious of standing straight during the day. Check your posture out in a mirror, if you can set up a couple mirrors to see back and side without turning your head that would be good. Having forward head is very stressing on one's neck and upper back (the back neck muscles are really extensions of your upper back.) and leads to spasming and the burning feeling of lactic acid in overworked muscles. > > > > Also to get a feel for what it is like to stand up straight, stand against a wall. Guest guest
, I'm so sorry about the jaw displacement. I understand the pain. When I had major surgery in 2004 it took the anesthesiologist 5 attempts to entubate me. He finally did, but my jaw kept locking up right after the surgery and it still does, I think there is arthritis as well as a dislocated disc that cushions the jaw joint. I hear every movement in my ear as though the disc is touching the ear canal. Still having jaw problems, popping and locking. I don't think the jaw was ever x-rayed, if so it was before I woke from surgery. I had my first whiplash when I was 14, riding horses. I was never treated for it. My parents never took me to a doctor for a so called minor accident. A horse fell and sat upright on my hips once. I couldn't walk for about 20 min after that. Freaky things happen and it's a wonder our bodies take the abuse as well as they do. I worked hard on the farm, baled hay, mucked stalls, drove the tractors planting and cultivating and still had the energy to ride my horse every day. Crazy tomboy was unstoppable till I had my first migraine. I was 18 and my first child was a month old. The hardest work I ever did was to raise my 4 children alone. Now I struggle every day to care for my animals and myself, the house and cook " some " meals. LOL I don't keep the house as spotless as I used to I gotta tell ya, there are more important things to do. You are blessed to have good discs in your spine. Do you have good genetics? A lot of my family, mom and dad too, had bad backs, discs, arthritis and osteoporosis. I make lots of typos and have ever changing vision. plus age eyes(50)Lots going on right between my ears( technically upper neck) but my neck doesnt hurt. Guest guest
You are correct.an x-ray will not show a slipped, bulging or herniated disk. As for the chiro not being qualified to dx.I beg to differ. I think it depends on the chiropractor. After our accident, I was re-evaluated by our chiro and he knew exactly what had happened (called the right spot where my disk was bulging and everything!). He still had me go get an MRI, but he knew all along that the disk was damaged just by doing a thorough exam. Joi Hi Debbie! Welcome! The group can correct me if I am wrong but I don't think an x-ray can show slipped, bulging or herniated discs. Also, a chiropractor is not qualified to make such a diagnosis for you. You need to go see a neurosurgeon or even an orthopedist and have an MRI done to find out the exact cause of all your pain. I know it can be frustrating when doctors don't seem to listen but if you feel that there is truly something wrong then you should seek out other doctors that will listen to you. Good luck!!!! Guest guest
WOW Jennette! We are soul sisters! No, bad genetics, My mother had severe RA since age 30. But every time they xray me, they see nothing to much of any kind of arthritis. Just a tiny tiny bit. Normal for age 50. Full of a crooked spine. sway back -crooked atlas, jaw stuff. Low lumbar too. Luckily that doesnt act up that often. chiro says that i have a severe reverse curve and my head is 110 % off. I looked at the films, didnt look that bad to me, but he went YIKES. He says my neck wont stay because of the gravity and the severe reverse curve. Which is exactly what the radiologist saw on the xrays. No disc problems, anything. Just crooked. You know. I knew a lady who got tmj jaw problems from the same exact thing as you experienced. You were probably a sitting duck because of the whiplash. Then The operation messed up your jaw. Guest guest
I had my xrays and the radiologist faxed over what he saw, and it was exactly what my chiro saw too. I think they are taught to read all that stuff. Mine got suspicious when my neck wouldnt stay so he got the side view. Showed the reverse curve. No one else looked for that.It does depend on the chiro. I have gone to 6. Out of all 6, there is one guy(very nice guy)** But** he is just not talented at it, and doesnt have the knack. So I dont go there because, theres no sense in leaving worse. I like them around age 60. By 60 they have seen alot. cindy > > You are correct.an x-ray will not show a slipped, bulging or herniated disk. > > > > > As for the chiro not being qualified to dx.I beg to differ. Guest guest
I had my xrays and the radiologist faxed over what he saw, and it was exactly what my chiro saw too. Guest guest
Jane, Jane what are we gonna do with you? And you cant get a disability thru fast? I > > > > > > did physical therapy with a PT who really knew his stuff. That was a revelation to me. > > > > > > > > > > > > Hope this helps, > > > > > > > > > > > > Rochelle > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi, my name is Debbie.  I am so glad y'all are here.  > > > > > > > > > > > > > I am so tired of the " reasons " my doctors have given me over the years, yes years, of pain and suffering.  I was told I needed a reduction mammoplasty, which I had, it didn't help.  I was told I was deficient in vitamin B, so I take shots.  I was told it will go away.  When I continued to complain, I was told I was a complainer.  I finally was able to get a doctor to run an x-ray on my neck.  I had asked for both neck and back, but all I got was the neck.  I took the x-ray to my chiropractor and he told me there is definitely cause for all of the pain.  I think he said it was a bulging disk in my neck.  He mentioned 2 other things, sorry I cannot remember them, sometimes the pain is so bad, it shuts my brain down. > > > > > > > > > > > > > I do not leave my home very often because that requires wearing clothes.  Any pressure on my neck/shoulders/back causes me pain.  If I do put on clothes I have to make sure I have taken at least an aspirin to make it back home.  I just do not know what to do. > > > > > > > > > > > > > I live southeast of Houston.  I do not drive into Houston because it is very difficult for me to turn my head enough.  Is there a list of doctors without having to give out my name and address? > > > > > > > > > > > > > I apologize for all of the complaining.  Thanks for being here. > > > > > > > > > > > > > Debbie > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi, I am new. My son was just diagnosis with JRA. We are currently waiting for which type he has. He is 17 months old and has been limping on his left leg for 4 months. They think it is in his left knee only so far. We go for a MRI the first week of June. I am waiting for my insurance to approve PT, eye doctor, and the MRI. I am hoping we can get his range of motion back on his left knee. It does not straighten but he can bend it. He takes naporsyn in the am and pm. So far it seems to help with the pain. We are trying to be optimistic but some times it is hard. I am currently pregnant with my second child so I pray this is not something she will have. Overall he is a happy baby just limps. Thank you for listening. Guest guest
Welcome...sorry you had to find us but it is a very helpful and suppletive group. When my son was first dxed...I felt so devasted and defeated...I was so so angry. That was a little over two tears ago...when he was 5.5. These past two years have given me time to accept this diagnosis and to realize that he had probably been suffering with JIA since he was a baby. He was hospitalized at 8.5 months old with an unexplained high fever...my gut says that was the first sign. His disease was fully triggered around his 4th birthday by a combo of croup and vaccinations...in my opinion. My little guy was dxed in April 2009 and thru the right combination of drugs...injections of methotrexate & Enbrel...he has been showing NO signs of active disease since November 2009. We added OT last October as well...and he's doing great. He got his childhood back. While it still hurts my heart that he has to deal with this stupid disease...I am so thankful he is feeling better and most days able to simply be an almost 8 year old boy. All the best, & , 7.5, poly...nystagmus...SPD Sent from my iPhone
