Guest guest
Dear Tina, I am sure you are doing fine. Normal to be nervous. If you took the exam before then you know what to expect and that is half the battle. Math, Law and Pharmacology are the foundation so you are doing that right! Open up EACH of my tutorials and study them. Be sure you understand each topic in my tutorials and in your general study book. That will help you to know what is your weakest area and what else you need to study that you havenot already. What is the name of the math book you are using? You wrote: " Pharmaceutical calculations " 13th by C. Ansel? This book is mainly for those studying to become a pharmacist. It has basic information for pharm techs and done well. However it also has much advanced math. I would not recommend you to study the advanced math from it as it will not be on the PTCB exam. However if you find a book that is specific for passing the national certification exam for pharm techs I am sure you would be much happier with it. IF that is not the book to which you refer please post the name and author of the book you are using so that I may give you proper feedback. Hope this helps, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Chemistry Founder/Owner From: Tina <patel79us@...> Subject: New Member Date: Friday, May 20, 2011, 4:47 PM Hello everyone my name is Tina about I am about to take the PTCB exam for the second time only have about one more week to prep I don't know if i am studying the right way. Guest guest
Dear Tina, Regarding your choice of books: I have not seen or reviewed that book per se. However I went to the following web site links and found the following two books sold by the same company: 1. Title: Reference Guide For Pharmaceutical Calculations Third Edition (NAPLEX, FPGEE and PTCE) Author Manan H Shroff Edition Third Edition 2008-2009 ISBN 0-9746544-9-3 Description It has more than 600 questions with answers, complete explanations, and includes calculations on: Percentage and ratio strength, equivalent, milliequivalent and milliosmoles, dilution and concentration, Stock solution and alligation, TPN, I.V. Infusion, rate of I.V. infusion and calories, isotonicity and isoosmolarity, opioid conversion and creatinine clearance. http://www.pharmacyexam.com/rg_calculations.cfmTitle 2. Title: Reference Guide For PharmacyTechnician Exam Second Edition (PTCE) Author Manan H Shroff Edition Second-Edition 2010-2011 ISBN 0-9786395-4-5 Description Approximately 500 questions with answers and complete explanations. Approximately 1500 drugs with their brand names, generic names, therapeutic uses and adverse effects in easy to read tables. Complete exercises on commonly asked pharmaceutical calculations in examination. Includes practice tests. Lists of commonly used abbreviations. List of drugs requires refrigeration and much more... http://www.pharmacyexam.com/RGFTE.cfm http://www.pharmacyexam.com/rg_calculations.cfm PLEASE notice the different book ISBN numbers and the TARGET audiences The first one is a thrid edition and is geared for pharmacists with a bit of advanced math: milliosmoles, isoosmolarity, opioid conversion and creatinine clearance. Nice to know but not on the PTCB exam and used by pharmacists; rarely by techs. Notice the following in the second description of the book for pharm techs or those studying the PTCE/B. " Complete exercises on commonly asked pharmaceutical calculations in examination. " I think the math in this book is what techs will use and most likely on the exam. I am not saying on the job you will never use the advanced math in the first book listed, but I am saying it is unlikely that you would and it is unlikely on the PTCB exam, which leads me to you would be better off using that time to study other tech related topics. Just my opinion. If you go to the files section you might find a list of some books that are specifically for PTCB study: Files > 2- Books and Study Guides Hope this helps, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Founder/Owner > > > > From: Tina <patel79us@> > > Subject: New Member > > > > Date: Friday, May 20, 2011, 4:47 PM > > > > Hello everyone my name is Tina about I am about to take the PTCB exam for the > > second time only have about one more week to prep I don't know if i am studying > > the right way.
