Guest guest
Hi Jeannie sorry to hear about your new problems hopefully with care it won't get worse. As for the driving yes it hurts too much to turn your neck which you are NOT supposed to do for awhile. Even wearing a collar which you will be for awhile I had mine for 8 weeks. As for housework, little things you can do after a few weeks I am sure but the heavy stuff will either have to sit. A dirty house is NOT the end of the world.Or maybe your husband or a relative can just run the vacumn for you and you can do little things. I know it sounds hard but if you push yourself too soon you could only injure yourself. Just think of it as small things for a greater good (Less Pain) and try to look at it that way. Ask around anyone you know who could come over and help you a little. Or maybe just a teenager who needs a little extra cash, a daughter of a friend?? Don't stress so much it won't do your recovery any good to be overly stress. Hang in there I am sure it will all go ok. Best wishes for your surgery. On the sheet of things I'm not supposed to do after surgery, it says no housework for 6 weeks, no driving for 2 weeks, and no showers for a week. I can't believe I can't do any housework, I have no one to help me, other than my husband, and he works as much as possible plus overtime, and he has back and leg pain. There's too much to ask him to take over and do. I'm getting quite stressed, my dr. found signs of COPD on my chest xray, and i don't and have never smoked. My husband tries to smoke outside, but it's hard sometimes when it's 112 degrees. I just have the beginnings of it, I guess due to second-hand smoke, and I worked in casinos for over 20 years. I'm just in shock.I guess my question for you is were they as strict on you as far as doing housework and driving as they are with me? > Well, thanks for all your input, I appreciate it, surgery is this Wed. > Jeannie > >
Guest guest
I am approaching the end (I hope) of recovery from TWO cervical surgeries in 3 months...I have been in 3 different braces since March and summertime heat sure doesn't help! I too have had to accept debris on the carpet and disposible dinnerware (I live alone) but I have regained so much flexibilty and my neck is actually much less stressed and painful than it was even a year ago.3 months after surgery, I can now turn my head in all directions without pain, and even dance to music. The whole process is frustrating and can really make you cry, but hang in there, don't listen to the horror stories, and just believe in your own recovery, and you will get there. p.s. WHY DO STRANGERS NEED TO KNOW YOUR ENTIRE STORY WHEN THEY SEE A BRACE? THIS IS SO RUDE TO ASK PERSONAL MEDICAL QUESTIONS!!!
Guest guest
HI Oh my I had to well kind of chuckle when you ask at the end of your post why people always wanted to know about your surgery when they seen someone in a brace because " I'm " one of those people...hahaha but my reason was because I'm going to have the cervical surgery and was curious to know anything I could about it because sometimes that's the only way you find out.I din't don't mean to offend people by asking in my case well if the Doctors don't telll you what you need to know sometimes that's the only way " is to ask " " sorry but I do know what you mean sorta but people are only human I guess as by nature we're curious Shirley damfilly <damfilly@...> wrote: I am approaching the end (I hope) of recovery from TWO cervical surgeries in 3 months...I have been in 3 different braces since March and summertime heat sure doesn't help! Guest guest
Dear Sharon, Thanks for the advice, I'm taking a break from trying from trying to get the house in shape before the surgery. I wasn't expecting to have hardware, but I guess I'm worse off than they thought. I'm beginning to feel like " The Six Million Dollar Woman " !!The one benefit from all this is the special treatment I get in the airport when I have to go through security. The dr. said I would also be about a half inch taller, since I'm kind of short, I guess that's another benefit. I have to look on the bright side, I never thought at age 52 I would be disabled and full of metal from two knee replacements, two back fusions, and now my neck. Oh well, life goes on and I'm lucky I don't have a life threatening disease. I was just so overwhelmed with all the dr. was telling me, I couldn't remember to ask all the questions I wanted to ask. He said no housework for 6 weeks, can I wash dishes and cook and do a little laundry? We have no family close by, and the few people we know work during the time I would need someone. My husband works at 4AM, and doesn't get home till afternoon. He'll help all he can, but it's not the same cleaning I would be doing. Thank you again for your help. By the way, does anyone else have problems with -I get something with " page not available " a lot, sometimes for hours and don't know why. Guest guest
Hi Jeannie I'd say a week or so and you should be able to do some things like light laundry and dishes and cooking. I'd go ahead and plan some really simple meals the first week you are home OR cook some stuff and put it in the freezer so all you have to do is heat it up or your hub can. The easier the better the first week because I doubt you will feel like moving around too much. And moving your neck at all could be painfull. Paper plates was a good idea wish I had thought of that one. Hope all goes well and this is the end of surgeries for you for a long time. Best wishes.
