Guest guest
My son just had what I think was an ear infection - I only realised it the day after - and it was over. He is 2 years old, so he could tell me what was sore, he kept saying his ear was sore. The next morning, all around inside his ear - was orangy wax, I asked if his ear was still sore and he said no. SO perhaps we were just lucky on that - its the first time its happened, and its over before I could start to worry. Chelly San Diego, CA Mommy to Trenton 8/19/99 - No Shots! Guest guest
Hi, Chelly! It sounds like your son's ear perforated, thus the orangy wax. You should take him to the ear, nose and throat doctor to make sure that the perforation has healed. Also, you want to make sure that his hearing hasn't been compromised at all. This just happened to my daughter. So far, everything is healing fine, but that is not always the way it goes. Better to be on the safe side. Guest guest
About 5 months after I stopped bf my daughter she got and ear infections. She was almost 2 years old at the time. We were outta town and she had a horrible cough with it. When we got back my mom said that I should really take her somewhere so when I did, I found out she had a full blown ear infection. The Doc suggested amox but I declined and said I'd bring her back if it wasn't getting any better. That next day I took her to my Chiro and he looked into her ears and then adjusted her neck. A week later the cough was gone and I took her back to the Chrio to check her ears and they both had an infection, he also adjusted her neck. At that time I was only giving her echinachea and bifidophilous, but found something for ear infections called CBG extract (from NaturesSunshingProducts) I started giving her that 3 times a day along with every thing else and when I went back to the Chiro again, it was gone. She didn't have a tramatic birth but she was a very big baby (10lsb) when she was born. Her coller bone broke during labor adn I'm wondering if her neck was outta place when she was born leading to this after we stopped nursing. Either way, that was 7 months ago and hasn't had an ear infection since. Also, she is totally unvax and has never had an antibiotic

Guest guest
, you might want to do a search at Mercola's website. A few months ago, he had an article about excess ear wax. And it had to do with it being caused by a shortage of EFAs (essential fatty acids) if I'm recalling correctly. Anyone else here see that article? It's a shame if everyone here isn't already subscribed to his free newsletter. He always seems to have something good. Kathleen " We child-proofed our house 3 years ago but they're still getting in! Guest guest
I think that's probably what it is . My 4 year old gets all kinds of gunky ear wax woes!! I swear he is the ear-wax-producinest kid there ever was! When he was little (somewhere between 1 and 18 months, can't remember exactly) he caught a real nasty stomach bug, was puking everywhere and telling us his ears hurt. It was of course after hours for our Ped., so we took him to the local emergency room. He had so much wax in his ears they had to flush them so they could get a clear shot of the inner ear to see if it was infected! The ped. on call said some people/kids just produce more wax than others, and it's normal. Odin will also have drainage from his ears sometimes (for that matter, every once in a while my ears will drain too), and hunks of wax. So there ya go, more gross info for ya! Oh, and Odin was 100% breastfed too. He's never had an ear infection... just lots, and lots of wax. Liz PS - I keep forgetting to check my mail box, so I'm not ignoring you if you've sent me another email! ----- Original Message ----- From: Ives I wonder if its just his individual thing. For example my daughter and myself have normal brownish ear wax. My husband is always complaining his ears get " plugged " , he has to use some kind of ear wash to clean them out as it gets hard and packed in there. My son seems to have the same thing. One day, there was this lump or orangish wax on the outside of his ear, looked just like the stuff my husband cleans out. I know, this is gross and WAY too much information for you'all, but I just wonder if individuals have individual variations in ear eax? Guest guest
Well I've been watching this one and am kinda suprised noone has mentioned this! If you use regular cooking oil(all seem to work so far I generaly use olive) and a clove of garlic presed or choped, cook it for a few minutes till the garlic is real strong smeling. strain out the garlic and let cool. put a couple drops in the ear and a cotton ball to help keep it in. the infection will geneerally be gone withing 48hrs or less! I have very small eustatious tubes(the tube that allows drainage) and have ear infections frequently because they block so easy. This has always helped! the oil sooths the ear and allows it relax and allow easier drainage and the garlic kills the infection! For those of us who are no longer lactating (*snif snif*my babys only 15 and refused to nurse tilll I dried up now wants to start again! (any hints by the way?)) this will work great and way cheaper than whatever you can buy since most of us probably have these ingredients on the shlef most all the time(if not its probably an emergency trip o the store!LOL) My middle child also has asthma and lots of allergies(partiallyvaxed stupid me!) and get ear infections and pneumonia fairly often. Less since going to the chiropractor theough! Anyway he says the oil and garlic makes him dream of eating! LOL He had a very long celivery and I was pumped fll of antibiotics but thats a different story! marcia

Trenton has often had big chunks of orange wax come out - I'd say at least one every month or so - never any problems though - perhaps the wax is orange due to the environment - like where he is playing and what kind of dirt he gets into, thats what I figured anyway - cause the wax is there to clean the ear right? So whatever comes out - must be dirt and dust and stuff. Chelly San Diego, CA Mommy to Trenton 8/19/99 - No Shots! Guest guest
I have read that a strict gluten free and casein free diet will prevent ear infections. My son was vaxed, then got constant ear infections, until I did a completely gluten free and casein free diet. No ear infections since! see www.paleodiet.com www.neanderthin.com
Guest guest
I hope you mean your baby's only 15 MONTHS!! LOL Just try to nurse and who knows? You may start lactating again. Maybe not as much and maybe not at all but the closeness may be all your baby wants. My husband and I plan to adopt several children and I plan to nurse if they are younge enough to know thats what they should do! So there has to be a way! I know I've heard of adoptive moms nursing ! Guest guest
Contact La Leche...I'll send link(hopefully). Lucky you! My first is a redhead and second brown. I told my hubby I married him as he had red highlights and he would give me red-headed babies (as it's dominant over blonde)(and I had the red hair but now it's more auburn) and what did we end up with? A bleach blonde boy, a towheaded(is that like silver?) boy, and a towheaded girl. Actually, our first son together was redheaded but then it grew in bleach blonde escept right on the top. Most people thot I died his hair(yeah, right, at 2?) and if it gets longer, you can see the red. Verra interestin'. Good luck! Guest guest
This is the first " doctor " my children visited as soon as possible after their birth(except the 2 c-secs but they went there just as soon as I could get them also). And I have used a chiropractor for ear " infections " . But these last 3 times were late at night when the pain occurred so mother's milk seemed the answer! I swear by an adjustment from one experience. My son had no fever but the doc said infection and I refused to treat with antibiotic. This was before I knew to try HP or mm.) He was crying on occassion and not sleeping(breasrfeeding and under a year old). After 2 days of this went to chiro and he fell asleeep on the way home and slept the rest of the night! The next day he was exhibiting normal behaviour (when I got home I also gave him a sip of beer as I didn't have any wine)(per Dr. Mendelsohn's advice). Laurie>Oh Chiropractor fixed my baby's ear pain. Many people recommend that ALL new babies see a chiropractor as soon as possible because of all the baby endures during the birth. Guest guest
Dear Edith, Absolutely. The eardrum is semi-permeable, and the ozone gas will slip through and clean up that little problem. Guest guest
Have you tried using Proboitic's, usually a compounding Pharmacy carries one that is usually better than those at Health food stores, called Megagentic's Ultra Flora Plus ~ comes in capsules or powder no taste. This will work like an anitboitic if you use enough, maybe 3 times a day. However it will work to keep the GI tract healthier and the immune system as well. The Herb Mullein or Garlic oil comes in a tincture and can be warmed and add a few drops to the ears.< Find at health food stores And there are some Homeopathic natural safe pills to use for pain, Belladonna > My son is having a very bad ear infection.
