Guest guest
Well, today was 's first day absent. Fri she had a sudden fever after five days of a rotten cold. Then that night she said her ear hurt. I'm thinking ear infection for sure, that explains the fever, and I thought it looked red with the otoscope but wasn't sure. (the light burned out so I replaced it with a $3 penlight from Sears, but the barrel is orange and I was afraid it could be reflecting color, and the light isn't really bright enough, so I couldn't be certain). Sat. she awoke saying no pain, and she had no fever. In light of the recent immuno appt, I felt I did not want to look like an " overreactor " by taking her in for every twinge, thinking if she had an ear infection she should not suddenly have NO pain. Then last night here comes the pain again. Worse this morning so I took her in today and sure enough, the left ear is infected. The thing is... I bet you a million dollars she had fluid buildup last Wednesday that the immuno didn't bother to tell me about. I can't prove it, so there's nothing I can do. But when she took her crabby self over to examine at that appointment, she hesitated obviously and did a double take at 's left ear. This was after she just spent 20 minutes negating my every concern. When I saw her reaction to 's ear (we've all seen that reaction enough times from enough doctors, right?!), I was 100% certain she was about to turn to me and tell me had an ear infection. In reality, she didn't say a thing, yea or nay. I speculate she had plenty of fluid but it didn't look infected, and even though it is PURE EVIL, she decided she didn't need to let me in on that, figuring I'd overreact or demand abx or something, or use that to say " I told you so " ? Which is actually not true, I never ever insist on abx for when they are not clearly needed, as I am paranoid about the possibility of resistance. Again, I cannot prove this!!!! But I feel it in my gut. I'd guess that Friday's pain was from the fluid building full up, then it took a couple days for a full blown infection to spring up. So I don't feel bad about not taking her in on Saturday. When she was younger, I was famous for taking her in " two days too early. " I'd KNOW she was getting an ear or sinus infection, take her in, pay the co-pay and they'd see nothing clinical to support my hunch. Two days later we'd be back and there was the infection was for sure. So rather than feel bad, I feel like I saved one $15 co-pay, a needless trip and exposure to Lord-knows-what in the sick waiting room. I just hope DH sees it that way! (he was surprised I didn't take her in Saturday) So we're on the Omnicef express! (mom to , age 5-1/2, dairy intolerant-related GERD -- currently has polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other defs... and also to Kate, born 9/19/02, dairy intolerant)
Guest guest
, I know what you mean about going in two days too soon. Instead of a day late and a dollar short, we are 2 days early and out 20 bucks! It happened to me ALL the time. I know when my kid is getting sick. I would be the " good " mom and go in right away. " Oh no Mrs. B., your son's (ears, throat, chest) is perfectly clear...must be post nasal drip. " ) Two days later, ear infection, strep, bronchitis...take your pick. The only thing is, my immuno is an hour and a half away. We are under her care, but we see the ped for day to day things. The immuno wants me to get into the ped on day one with (CVID). They want him on antibiotics immed because whatever he gets, will NOT go away without help. The ped on the other hand, just doesn't get it! You would think they would go out of their way to learn a little about PID but no. I literally say, " I need an antibiotic today...as per CHOP (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia). After 3 years, they are FINALLY starting to listen to me Don't really think they get it, but they don't argue any more. Guest guest
Kim - Has your immunologist written a direct letter to your ped, kindof like a consult note? They need to be communicating regarding his plan of care and you need to be able to sit back and be Mom. Guest guest
Ursula, I'm trying to catch up on all the messages...been away for just a couple days... Yes, Chris' immuno at Children's Hospital did send a letter outlining what is to be done when chris gets sick....but they still look at ME. I play, Dr., mother, nurse etc....The last visit to the Dr. just this past Wednesday I brought Chris in to have him re-checked after 10 days of a new antibiotic for a sinus infection I didn't know he had. There were no symptoms, so I had no idea if it was gone...She said, " there is no infection but his tonsils don't look good " ...OK...well what do you mean???? She said they are large and red. I said OK, large tonsils run in the family....she said no, they don't look healthy....OK...I felt like saying SPIT IT OUT!!!!! I had to pull information out of her. I said, all right, I will call CHildren's...I need more specifics....She said maybe he has allergies...maybe he should see an ENT... She said she really didn't know what treatment was necessary and so I told her I would call. THey NEVER call themselves. Luckily, I am medically literate (a p re-nursing student if I ever find the time to get my butt back into school!). Anyhow, since i'm on I think your a nurse...correct? I told the ped that I thought that in some of our kids, they don't get allergies because they don't have IGE's. has none. (IGE's that is - as of his last blood work 2 years ago) Prior to IVIG, he had virtually zero IGG, IGA, IGM, IGE. So I am wondering if it is possible to have allergies with no IGE. Isn't it IGE that overreacts to give the allergic reaction??? I'm not sure. Anyway...Children's Hosp. got back to me (through the nurse) and said, " The next step would be to see an ENT or I can wait and see if I would like " . What is it with everyone leaving everything up to me! I wish they would just TELL me what to do because if I knew I would be making the big bucks! So of course the mother in me is not going to just wait and see because of the mothers guilt thing...so I will get on probably at least a 3 month waiting list to see an ENT. Sorry that I'm babbling on...just very frustrating. Let me know about the IGE's if you get a minute. Thanks, Kim, Mom to 8 (CVID) Re: Ear Infection > Kim - Has your immunologist written a direct letter to your ped, > kindof like > a consult note? Guest guest
I have really bad allergies and sometimes have trouble with sinsus problems and also can be also sinus infections. Everyday I hear different sounds and it been changed lot all the time. I only hear these enviromental sounds. Everyday sounds are not normal and change too much and I am having trouble with switch sentivities control but i am still on 2 and could not turn up to more level on sentivities becuase it made my ear hurt more but sounds were not normal. But I still hear some loud noises of some sounds and even could not hear voices everyday on sentivites 2. I am taking three different types of allergy medicines from doctor everyday all the time and still in my body all the time for long time. This year I been had ear infections two times but do not know why but I was seen my regular md dr and gave me the presprication for ear infections. My ear is still pain lot but I do not know what is going on with me. Even tylenols, mortion, and all pain medicines did not work or help with pain for about 9 months now but still take tylenol when needed to. Then also I been had oral surgery to took three widsoms out few months ago. But we are trying to figure out all things out to find out what is wrong with me. I have cochlear implant for 15 and half years. I do not know if nasal nose spray of nasnox that I been take might bother my ear but i don't know if that nose spray could affect or cause ear pains but I am trying to expiremental try not use nose spray for few days or few weeks to see what happens. But I have not used nose spray for one week and now I got sick with sinus problem again and now top of ear is pain for two days but I took sinus/congestion medicine from doctor that what I have when i need to anytime. Guest guest
, , and Colleen, Like said, I'm so glad that I'm not the only one suffering from the ear infection or the like. My earache is fading, but the sensitivity is strong. The volume is low enough that I can hear the sounds at a comfortable level. I just can't tolerate high volume. If it's turned high, I will feel the earache. The sensitivity level on my processor remains same, and it isn't the problem for me. I am going to contact my Audi tomorrow to update her on my medical condition. Like and Colleen said, the sounds have changed. They are clearer and sharper than usual; however, I had some trouble adapting to the speech sounds. They are different and crisp. I'm quite aware of the ambient sounds, so I am learning again to filter them out. I wonder if the left ear (or the right hemisphere of the brain) is meant to hear the musical sounds rather than the speech. I am more alert to the music and can easily identify the differences in pitches or frequencies. When someone talks, I find myself trying to hear him with my right ear because my left ear is picking up more sounds around his speech. I can hear him talking, but my brain isn't paying attention to what he is saying (phonemes or words). It is paying more attention to how he's saying (pitch, how long he's holding that phoneme, how loud it is, how soft it is, where the stress is, etc). I hope this description makes sense to you. In addition, I've already been told that my speech is much stronger in quality today, and was also asked if I recently took some singing lessons that I have not. I'm uncertain if having an ear infection is a blessing! I'll keep you updated. Guest guest
I think I just had one also. I put peroxide in and let it bubble for about 10 min, then I put silver in it for about 10 min. Did that for 2 days and it was gone. Then I did vinegar/ alcohol for 2 day to rebalance and then went to bed with olive oil in it. I also sniffed silver/aloe mix into my sinuses since they connect to the inner ear, just as a precaution. Silver or other heavy metal in the body is not healthy stuff! :-)) If you kill the bacteria in your ear, that does not make your ear more resistant to bacgteria - on the contrary it adds a toxin, and your ear will be MORE susceptible to future infections. This is why kids have recurring infections when they use antibiotics. Peroxide is less damaging. Ideally you want a homeopathic remedy to build the resistance of your ear tissue against bactertia. That way it makes no difference what bugs get in your ear, you will be infection free due to having resistance to the critters. The poor things will starve in YOUR ear then! I think we all need a good book on homeopathy one can use at home, that enables selection of a remedy to match a specific person in simple situations that are not chronic or serious enough to need a full time homeopath. Kinda like we all know when to use aspirin or a bandaid for conventional approaches. A possible follow-up option is to use ear drops you make with calendula 30C or 200C as that helps replace damaged tissue wigth healthy tissue. Just dissolve some in water, succuss well - before each use. Guest guest
I agree that homeopathic is ideal, but not always available. Irene, I love most of the info you pass on to all, but I must express my disagreement with your obsession with silver and Argyria. I don't know the exact numbers but my research only shows up a handful of people with Aygyria among hundreds of thousands of silver users. I would say there is an undiscovered key, other than just using silver, to getting it. I would venture to say that commercial silver today is very safe. It can be a quick, safe, effective treatment. Sometimes the most ideal treatment is not always around, so you use what you can. What ever works. As far as ear treatment. After my peroxide & silver treatment, that is why the vinergar and olive oil followup. Guest guest
Yes, we seem to suffer with ear infections with our son as well. Usually they do come around his fever time and the fevers are quite high. In fact some of his recent fevers that have been very high, have been due to the ear infection. Guest guest
We have been fever free for 28 weeks. However, when THeo was fevering we noticed that most times he began with congestion the night before.Last winter during one episode after we had done two months of prednisone, he had his first ear infection. THe Pfapa coincided with it. In fact we noticed that every potential cold or anything could easily flip into a phapa episode. When we started with prednisone last winter Theo had more colds, sore throats and then the ear infection. One of the side effects of prednisone is it does lower immune resistance. Anyway, just thought I would give one answer to the earache question. best to all, Dawn

Guest guest
It wasn't until we got ear tubes that we identified the fevers were cyclical without the ear infections. So, yes, I believe that they can happen concurrently. Personal belief is that when you have the infection in the throat related to , if the child's ear canals aren't quite right - it leads to ear infections. The interesting thing we found is that antibiotics didn't seem to really keep le's ear infections at bay - but the tubes greatly helped. Guest guest
What do you guys do for an ear infection? My right ear has been throbbing for over a week now. I tried Amoxicillin 875 mg for 10 days when I first started getting a sinus infection, plus salt water rinses etc. I have been putting tea tree oil in my ear, tried heat, tried cold, but it is still sore. Some parts of the day it seems okay but then it starts aching again very sharply. My doctor says it's swollen and bulging slightly, do steam heat for my sinuses to help the ear also but what else? It's hard to sleep cuz the pressure changes when I lay down or move around. I am also having TMJ (transmandibular jaw) issues on the same right side and my chiro has been adjusting my jaw regularly but it burns from the joint of my top and lower jaw through my ear. Thanks for any answers. in La Selva Beach CA
Guest guest
Hi I am using standard 3 percent hydrogen peroxide solution to fight with flu by dropping two drops of it into my air. Not sure if it would work for deeper ear problems but it might be tried. you lay down on your side. You drop two drops of it on the side that is looking outwards. wait until bubbling stops and than place a paper tissue on it and turn towards the other side. wait until that two drops leaks out. do the same for the other side. best wishes. Nil RE: Ear Infection What do you guys do for an ear infection? My right ear has been throbbing for over a week now. I tried Amoxicillin 875 mg for 10 days

I'd go with plant enzymes between meals, high Vit C. See my articles " MRSA/Sepsis " and " Sinus Infections " at url below, as the principles are the same, even if this is not mrsa/sepsis or a sinus infection. These approaches work well concurrently with conventional medicine as well, so don't hesitate to see your doctor. Carol willis_protocols Articles in Files. Guest guest
Carol, What is your diagnosis? How long have you been sick? To what level have you recovered and to what do you attribute that level of recovery? Please forgive me if you have posted this information before. I don't always read this list, as it has extensive posting - a popular list. Thanks. a Carnes > > & Schmidt <schmidtmba@> wrote: > > > > What do you guys do for an ear infection? > > I'd go with plant enzymes between meals, high Vit C. > See my articles " MRSA/Sepsis " and " Sinus Infections " at url > below, as the principles are the same, > even if this is not mrsa/sepsis or a sinus infection. > These approaches work well concurrently > with conventional medicine as well, so don't hesitate to > see your doctor. > > Carol > willis_protocols > Articles in Files. >

Guest guest
Personally...I wouldn't do the antibiotics...especially since he threw them all up!! That is a sign that his body does not want them!!!! I'd get him adjusted by a chiropractor. They seriously WORK. Both DH and I had chronic EI's as a child..and we were expecting that to happen for our daughet as well...but she gets weekly chiro adjustments and she's NEVER had an EI! EVER! And trust me...we breastfeed laying down a LOT! Lol! I'd get on some good probiotics, see a chiro, and maybe look into seeing a nauturopath as well. Good luck! > > So, I took my son to the doctor and it turns out he has sinus issues > and an ear infection. Of course the doctor prescribed him an > antibiotic.
