Guest guest
Hi, Lori - I'm no expert - still learning more every day - but I'll be happy to throw my 2 cents in.. I hope the other wise people here will also pipe up. IMO, You'd do much better with the band than the bypass, if this is your personal " demon. " , and for a WHOLE bunch of reasons. Firstly, only 70% of bypaqss people " dump " and become physically ill when they eat sweets. and then, most of these become used to the sugar effects, and no longer dump after 12-18 months. That means the only thing stopping you from this night binging is YOU and new habits. There is no band to keep you full and dim your hunger, so you're not so tempted to snack and binge. The " more restrictive " things like bypass and DS wil not solve the problem - becuase neither stops these types of foods. nor does the band. IMO, you DON'T want a " quick loss " becuase that's what we have all done before - starvation diets - and we always rebound with weight gain, plus even more weight. The Band loss is slower, safer, and healthy - and will teach you better habits that will allow you to KEEP the weight off. A large number of bypass people regain weight, becuase they have no band to help limit their intake, and then they stretch out their pouches and grow new intestinal villae which then absorb more food again. The truth is that with either methid, there are things you must do yourself - and they are nearly identical. You'r going to need to limit your intake (easier with the band), get some decent exercise (no excuses! :-) Water aerobics would be ideal for you, with your back problems) I also must mention the sad statistics here. 1 in 50 or more die from the bypass and in the month afterward. A great many need further major surgery. Many regain. many have lifelong health problems. If you get ill later, like a friend just diagnosed with breast cancer, the severe malnutrition of the bypass will work hard against you. The band can simply be unfilled so you can get extra nutrition. I hope you'll think about longterm, since you have a wonderful young daughter. with the bypass, you will likely drop more faster. But it will be an unhealthy loss, and often comes back. With the band, your loss is slowler, healthy, much less dangerous, and you'll be much more likely to keep the weight off and stay healthy (with your gut and stomach intact) and able to be there for her. I'm going to send more things to consider directly to you. good luck with whatever you decide! Guest guest
Hi Lori: I must agree with Sandy in that the band is safer. You will still need to do some work and one of the things I had to learn was to start really spending time caring about myself. The first 25 came off easy. Then it was 2 weeks before I started losing again. I have a treadmill and 2 Gazelles! But did I get on them?? Then I started going to a one-to-one fitness trainer. Now I am working out 3 times a week with the trainer and doing 30 minutes on the treadmill a day - the right way. I am already seeing the scale move and I feel less depressed!! They say give yourself 3 days to change a habit. Change one thing, do it for 3 days, then change another, do it also for 3 days. Replace those old habits with new ones and you will be surprised at how good you feel! I've gone from 282 on December 15, 2005 to 251 in almost 2 months. I had hoped to lose more, but I feel great and it is coming off the right way! Get the sweets out of the house. Buy lower calorie items or call a friend, or get on a chat! We need each other! You can do this. Re: Sandy Hi, Lori - I'm no expert - still learning more every day - but I'll be happy to throw my 2 cents in.. I hope the other wise people here will also pipe up. Guest guest
Hi Lori, Just wanted to say " ditto " to what Sandy has explained to you. I know others who have had bypass surgery and are struggling with all kinds of problems. Malabsorption is a serious thing. The body is essentially starving....for a time...and then, as Sandy said it basically " heals " on its own, hence the dumping cessation and the REGAIN. Our bodies are amazing creations and altering the natural is very dangerous. If you have the band you will eventually come across a friend or acquaintance who will have lost much faster and seem to be doing so well. You may feel upset that you have not lost as fast, but always keep in mind that you made a decision that is the right one in the long run. Losing slow and even going through a few plateaus is actually much more healthy to our bodies. I love my band and hope you will do all the research you can before you make your decision. Also, beware of a doctor who only does bypass surgery, they can be very convincing, as well as someone who has had the surgery. Do yourself a favor and find out about a bypass patient who is about 4 or 5 years post-op and talk to them. Wishing you well. Carol > > Hello > I know u are an expert on the band and a nurse as well. Guest guest
His Sandy, we might leave the coriander out it does nt taste that great to me. Hows your lad doing? We re still getting a few improvements in attention but Dans gut is still not to good. We are seeing Simon Murch next week not that he is going to do much though. When you did the SCD did you still give fruit and honey? Look forward to seeing you at the conference. dave From: "Sandy and Tim" <S.I.Woolley@...>Reply-Autism Treatment To: Autism Treatment Subject: Re: Mandy CiantroDate: Mon, 25 Sep 2006 17:38:04 -0000 Hi Dave,Sorry if you know this already. I'm no expert but I've looselyfollowed some of the chemistry in Andy Cutler's book. Basically, corriander (cilantro in the US) is a chelator - but not a good one. It can pick up mercury but easily drops it unlike the stronger DMSAchelator, for example. In the book Andy shows the atomic structuresof different chelators which demonstrates their ability to hold quitevisually. It explains why corriander can move mercury around (whichisn't good) while at the same time removing some (which is good).Tim and I are really looking forward to the conference (and to hearinghow you're getting along).Best wishes,Sandy
Guest guest
Hi Sandy, Please make sure that you continue doing Life Lift breathing for the rest of your life. It is a wonderful blessing to be able to do Life Lift breathing every day and to see your body change for the better as the days, weeks, months, and years go by!!! So, have fun with Life Lift as you become more and more beautiful, Sandy!! Love always, Pat Re: Newbie Question Hi Rashelle, Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to reply to my questions. I'm no longer confused! I haven't had much time this week to actually do the workouts but every time I'm in the car, I get in about 15-20 breaths. It has helped me so much. I can't wait until I have more time next week to do the workouts on a regular basis! I have tried so many things including Oxycise and Body Flex. I really like LifeLift so much better and it seems to be something I will stick with. Thanks again for answering my questions. Have a happy holdiay! Guest guest
Rick, I don't know the answer to this - not too many are rebanded after an erosion, and not much known yet. It's true that the VG has softer " sides " than other bands, and this is theorized to reduce future erosions. **BUT** if it is placed on a " too " small client, and then needs a really big fill, which means MORE pressure, this actually INcreases the risk of erosions. It's a fine line. The docs cannot tell what band is needed until they are in there and measuer, and see the extent of any scar tissue. The VG has only been out 3 yrs, and the earliest research with it is just coming to light, so there are lets of unknowns. But Dr Ortiz is good at banding over failed bypasses, and also with re- bands re erosions - discuss this all very thorughly with him before surgery. I could not find any article by Dr Ren in Obesity Surgery J in the last 2 yrs - only those 2 articles I cited. Maybe it is not published yet? Or maybe she is not the primary author? Good luck with all this! Guest guest
Maintenance calories for most women are about 2000-2400 cal a day. At 140 #, mine are 2200-2400. that's pretty standard per all commom calculators and written info. I couldn't imagine only having 1400 cal a day - that was my goal when LOSING 2-3 # a week. A # is 3500 caloroes. if we want to lose 1# a week, we need 3500 cal a week less, or 500 cal a day less. Guest guest
Yes, you really need to go ASAP and get an unfill. How have you survived for 2 months? Losing weight doesn't have to be unpleasant or painfull...We can lose it and be happy...Thankfully I am not throwing up just have some pain in my chest and acid reflux...I do think my band has loosened up because right now my stomach is growling letting me know it's hungry and I have been able to eat and keep it down...The 1st 3 or 4 days I didn't try to eat because it felt like a vise in my chest, it was so tight feeling...But now at night I have acid reflux and that is no fun at all...In fact it's nasty! So tomorrow I go in and see my Dr. and get a slight unfill... I hope you get one soon...We don't want to mess up our high dollar bands... Take care and get well soon.... Rena From: sandy doyle <doylesandy@...>Subject: Re: Re: I'm soooooooo confused... Date: Monday, April 21, 2008, 10:31 AM I am having the same problem.. I throw up almost every time i eat and only eat a few bites. I am trying to hang in another month before i go on vacation and then i was thinking of getting a total unfill and see what happened. I rarely eat just because of how it makes me feel. I was fine for a long time, but now it is not enjoyable. I drink smoothies to try and work through it to get something in my stomach. It has not been enjoyable the past 2 months. Of course i have lost weight , but i dont want to do it this way. Sometimes i am so frustrated because nothing goes down and the pain i feel is not worth it. I am sorry you are feeling this way, but also glad to hear that i am not the only one..I thought i was also doing something wrong. But i tried the juice of cup of noodles while out the other day and I had to get it out of my body too.. I wish you luck. I am going to go and try the unfill and see what happens. ' Best of luck to you.. Sandy Doyle Re: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] I'm soooooooo confused...>>>>>>>> Even after 1 year and 7 months my band still confuses me some...I saidin my other posts that I need an unfill BUT I was able to eat at lunchtoday. I ate a taco salad (eatable bowl), not all of it but a bigportion...I' d say 3/4 of it...So do I need an unfill? At nights is myproblem, waking up choking? I thought that was a sign of being to tightbut could something else be my problem? Yesterday I made sure I didn'teat or drink after 6 PM to see if that helped with the choking at nightbut nope, if anything it was worse...>> Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated. ..>> Thanxs...Rena>> Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Mobile. Guest guest
Well i had went and met you at DR. A's, and had an unfill then because of the same problem..it was good for a couple weeks and then right back to the same thing. I just kept thinking it was something i was doing..and i know the reflux thing too..I take my prilosec every day. At night sometimes i get up running to the bathroom. I am going to get a total unfill, this time around. I want to get to that sweet spot of enjoying life again...lol....now i am afraid to even drink water. It is weird though, sometimes i am ok..rarely.. but sometimes..I feel so good when that happens. lol...I am just getting worn out and fed up though with the not feeling good..Thanks for the words Rena, Sandy Re: [Dr-Aceves-bandster s] I'm soooooooo confused...>>>>>>>> Even after 1 year and 7 months my band still confuses me some...I saidin my other posts that I need an unfill BUT I was able to eat at lunchtoday. Guest guest
No problem, as long as that doesn't designate them all as spam! I'll send you one now, so you can retrieve it and mark it as NOT spam (assuming you want to ! :-) My last email to you was awhile ago, and I was asking how your daughter is doing with her quest to be banded? Guest guest
Sandy, thanks for being so understanding.. The quest is on hold until after April vacation, she is going to Europe with school (rome, tuscany and the french riviera) (I am going nowhere, LOL) She is " watching " what she eats and hasnt gained, so that is a good thing, but we will aggresively pursue banding after the trip....I can only concentrate on one thing at a time and I am pretty freaked out about her trip....(just regular mother neurosis) Thanks, Patty No problem, as long as that doesn't designate them all as spam!
