Guest guest
Hi all, I'm on Pegintron / Ribavirin for 9 weeks now and doing well. The flu like symptoms in the 28 hours after the Pegintron shot, are substantial less after one month. I take my shot Sunday afternoon, and be able to work normal on Monday. The Ribavirin gives me more trouble. My Hb count dropped from 10.5 to 6.5 the first month. After reducing the dose (5 in stead of 6 pills per day) my Hb is up to 7.5. Still too low. I'm short of breath, and my normal sportive and active lifestyle is reduced to a passive lifestyle. I read about EPO used with kidney anemia, and this other study reports positive about EPO with HCV patients. http://www.hivandhepatitis.com/2001conf/ddw2001/1e.html The conclusion: " This study, which shows that EPO can successfully treat RBV-associated anemia in a significant number of patients, is an important part of the overall treatment algorithm for chronic HCV infection and indicates that patients who respond to EPO may be safely maintained on the doses of RBV needed to maximize their chances of therapeutic success. " The problem is that EPO is expensive and not covered by my insurance here in the Netherlands. Has anyone an idea how I can beat this anemia and get my energy back?
