diagnosed young and my progression

Dear , this is quite possible. When I was diagnosed at age 10, Dr.

said 'may be slightly progressive or not at all' - and that sums up the

next 39 years of my life. I did have 1 surgery, always wore good shoes,

only 'big' change is about 10 years ago, Dr. suggested 1) I quit wearing

running shoes (too soft), 2)wear cross trainers instead(more stable) and

get some custom made orthotics,(for underfoot support, to lessen the

shock and help me walk heel/toe, not toe/heel - all of which I did.

I have had 3 or 4 lengthy periods of PT for CMT in my life. One thing I

learned that has come in handy the most is HOW to fall - like when I go

down, to try to 'tuck and roll' sommersault style. In between sessions,

I needed to practice what I was taught. Sometimes I did, sometimes I

didn't. My surgery was a tendon/soft tissue surgery to fix the rolling

feet.

Find out all you can about CMT. Do you know your daughter's type? Does

she wear AFOs now or has the Dr. suggested any other orthotics before

surgery is done?
