Guest guest
I agree with that. I had a muscle biopsy, spinal tap and of course, EMGs and was told that I had MS three years ago! I took injections daily and it was just this past summer I found out that I had CMT instead. A spinal tap will show signs of MS ONLY if you are in the middle of an exacerbation (which I never had) and the muscle biopsy was ordered for me to rule out a myopathy (,muscle disease). Ironically, my very first neuro said that he suspected CMT and even though there were possible signs of MS, the odds of me having both diseases were extremely rare. However, a brain MRI showed a lesion, which can confirm MS, thus I was given a dx. I have since learned that my lesion was the result of migraines I suffered from in college. (I am now 45) and the lesion has vanished. So back to the drawing board we went. This past July EMG testing confirmed some type of CMT. I would not recommend a spinal tap or muscle biopsy unless it is absolutely necessary. Both were very uncomfortable! Karon
