My chiro only allows me to do acupuncture. No manipulations at all.

I know our bones are very fragile. My rotula just popped out because I was

dancing three weeks ago. I didn't even twist my knee and I had been dancing

for quite an hour, so it wasn't because of lacking of warmth. It hurts a

lot, the tissues around are all swollen and I feel sad to realize that I

cannot be the gym girl I used to and I have been clinging on to my kids not

to fall into depression but one thing I know: our skeleton is to be

respected by everyone including ourselves and the other is: don't stop

dancing but do it with a gentle partner and not by yourself: in case you

fall it can be a great help! Lol!

Happy New Year

Thanks for your input Rochelle. I have had crunching sounds that

resemble a plastic grocery bag being wadded up. I know that is from

air pockets. This is different as it is more like bones being snapped

against each other as they bend. It's very hard to describe. I'm

getting headaches in the forehead that keep me from concentrating.

I'm going make an appointment with the chiropractor to talk to him

about this. It's bad enough to deal with painful flare ups but

annoying to maybe have a doc make it worse. I guess I worry that it

might be serious since it is getting worse and it started right after

the treatment before I even left his office.

It reminded me of the event that caused my disc to rupture and how I

was annoyed at the strange numbness in my neck right after it. I was

trying to open a valve on a tank that was as tall as I was and didn't

realize it was frozen shut. So, this is kinda freaking me out.

This is the last thing I need as I am graduating this spring with my

MLS in Library and Information Science so am looking for a full time

position. I've worked part time at a library for 2 years without

insurance.

Before my surgery I went to chiropractors for years. Some were good some were

too rough for me. But I got quite a bit of relief. It helped with pinched nerves

and putting my hips back in line and that sort of thing. But I went to some that

made me feel worse. And be careful of anyone who promises to " cure " you. It

ain't gonna happen!

I know the subject of chiropractic is frowned upon here, but I am

hoping I can ask this question...

I have heard that people with scoliosis should not receive chiropractic

care, but why? I understand that it can not cure a curve, but can it

provide relief from the pain? (I have not had any surgery, if that

matters.)

Rose,

I just wanted to add that when I was waiting for my disability to come through, I went to another Chiropractor and he came out and told me he wouldn't touch me with a ten foot pole. One reason was because of the blood clot in my neck. any manipulation could cause it to break loose. The one I worked for was before I had my stroke, so everyday he would work on me at the end of the day. He was a dirty old man and couldn't keep his hands off me! He really overcharged these poor people and had them come every day for weeks at a time. He eventually fired me because I didn't want to "play" !!!. I would be developing X-rays and he would come in this really small room and he kept trying knowing I couldn't open the door or it would ruin the films. Anyway, there are good ones and bad ones, just be careful........OK?

Rose - I have been to a dozen chiropractors in my fibro experience

(since 1982). 3 were good, but the rest were downright dangerous. For

the past 15 years in my area there is only one chiro I trust and find

helpful - he is gentle and doesn't require you to come back many

times. He just fixes what's wrong and let's you decide how you feel

and if you need to come back. The bad chiros are way too rough, can

cause more harm than good (they overadjust or make you wear ice on your

back for hours a day - which got me terribly sick), or they want you to

come back 3 times a week for 1-2 months, etc. $$$$$

I only go to my good chiro when my neck or back gets a " crick " and my

he fixes it easily.

I became a believer in good chiropractic when I pulled a bone out of

place in my arch (dragging a canoe backwards into a motor home while

wearing rubber sandals). After limping in pain for a month, I went to

this very gentle kind young chiropractor who thumped and twisted my

foot in different ways and got the thing back in place. He even showed

me how to do it myself if the bone ever got misplaced again. Now, had

I gone to an orthopedic doctor, they probably would have first put me

on pain killers, muscle relaxants, and then most likely operated!

Just be careful of what kind of chiropractor you go to. Mine has done

me worlds of good - not for FMS/CFIDS, but for my weird back and neck

at times.

There is actually a page online showing that sometimes chiropractic

neck adjustments can cause stroke. Thinking of some of the " gorillas "

I've seen in the past, I'm not surprised.

I've been going to a chiropractor for about 2 months now. I have had some other illnesses during that time, so it's difficult to know if it's doing me any good yet. I do know that it hasn't made things worse, and I think that I can move my neck more comfortably.

Approx 23 years ago my chiro got me back on my feet from a lumbar

spine issue due to my job.

I continue to go to him and he has helped me tremendously over the

years with shoulder, neck, and back issues.

I go when I need him which can be 3 times a week or once a month.

He does not seem to be able to help with my TMJ problems.

Does he help my fibro??? not so convinced about that, but with the

skeletal issues he has been invaluable.

Hi Rose,

I have a chiropractor that I see regularly. When I got this terrible

sore body 8 years ago I began seeing her. I couldn't even lay on my

body, muscles were tight and ropy in my thighs and hips. It took her 3

months with seeing me a couple times a week to get me to the point

where I could finally get some sleep. She does not jerk the body,

no " bear hugs " . Only gentle muscle munipulation, which includes a

great neck massage to loosen the muscles. I still see her about every

3 weeks as I have scoliosis. She also has fibro so she knows what the

body can tolerate.

I have had bad chiropractors, too, that about killed me until I found

her locally. She uses an activator tool to help break up tight muscles

when they won't move with munipulation--a god send, believe me.

I believe a chiropractor can help, but ask what kind of treatment they

do. No machines that jerk you around. Mine only uses her hands. There

are many techniques that are used.

Hi ,

You know that chiropractor I went to never mentioned disks and gave me

the impression it was muscle and my back just needed adjusting. A

couple of visits before I saw the surgeon I had been on line

investigating and asked him if he thought it may be a herniated disk -

he said no and of course I took it he knew what he was talking about

and also I felt like I was going over his head by seeing a doctor -

now which I had been to the doc 1st. You would think in his profession

he would have realized it was something bad especially as I was

crawling in there and had lost most of the use of my leg.

People of this group,

I have concluded that some way some how we all got f**ked with.all of the pain,

old and new that we live with day to day. It's hard to know who to trust or

which professional we must see. For me it seems as though whenever I get new

test results something is usually f'd/up. These days I just do not know what to

do in life. I do know death very well as I am always thinking of it and

choosing that over my so called life. For some reason I am still alive. For

some stupid reason we seem to have all these problems, maybe an alien test or

government and we are the lab rats.
