Guest guest
where are you located ? I used a firm in Albany NY >By the way did you use a lawyer to get your SSDI??? My doctor has >recommended that I start down that road. I know it is hard but two >and a half years >sounds really tough.. >Tom > Yes I did. I used Binder and Binder from the TV ads. They worked for me. The reason for the time length was waiting to get on the docket for my initial hearing, and then my second hearing where I contested their denial. My understanding is 85-90% are denied on the 1st try. I also hear that it is very hard to win without a lawyer. They work on a contingency basis and their fees are capped at $4200 I think. The time lag varies from state to state. I've heard of some people winning their case in 6 months. PA has a long wait list. Ask away if you have more questions. Guest guest
Does anyone know it's decided on when each person is reviewed for their SSDI? I have a letter saying mine will be 6-7 years from the award date. Is it based on how serious the condition is, or what? The way my letter is worded, it's like the key word is " may'' be reviewed, not a for sure thing, so I really don't stress terribly much over my activities. My body won't let me do a lot anyways, and when I overdo it, I really pay for it later. Is there a site I can go to to find out about this review thing. just out of curioisity. my best friend is also on SSDI, but in another state. She had to use a lawyer, simply because her beginning medical care was here in Vegas, and she moved to Oregon. It got too complicated to do her claim herself, she ended up having to pay $5400.00 from her settlement to her lawyer. Jeannie [PainInTheNeck- Back] To those who get SSDI: yardwork question PainInTheNeck- Back@groups .com Date: Thursday, July 31, 2008, 3:49 AM I receive SSDI, I have for about a year now after a long 2.5 year battle. Yesterday I cut out some weeds on the edge of our property, not real back breaking work, other than it was real hot so I took it slow. My Wife went ballistic when I told her. She knows how hard we fought for the SS and we really need it. She's concerned a nosey neighbor would see and when my review comes up in 2 years it will go against me. My reply to that was they can also say, they almost never see me outside the house, other than to get in the car. If you receive SSDI or any other help, are you extra cautious of not being seen doing any type of work, or play? I understand her concern, but I also think there is a grey area where we can be disabled but still show signs of life. Are you or your spouse cautious about what you are seen doing? Thanks, Dave

Guest guest
While the contentions of 80+% of claims being denied just off the starting line may be true, it doesn't mean you need or even want a lawyer. You just need to practice some common sense things because you will be questioned by the medical people about what you can do or do do currently. One thing that they may even be able to check on and that they will ask about is " Did you drive here today? " Your answer better be " NO " . Tending your lawn might not be a good idea either. If you are on LTD from a company, one of their insurance company's tricks is to hire someone to photograph you at home/around the yard etc. They do this. I never had to use a lawyer and was granted SSDI first time around. > > > > >By the way did you use a lawyer to get your SSDI??? My doctor has > > >recommended that I start down that road. As a photographer and a generally snoopy guy, if not disabled I may be one of those guys hiding in the bushes or the black van ;-) May I ask what state you are from and your age at the time you applied? This can help others on the forum. Dave

Guest guest
I'm in Missouri and was 44 or 45 (I forget) when I applied. I'm currently 65 and on regular SS now. > > > >Tending your lawn might not be a good idea either.
