I had three EMGs last year - the second one lasted for over three hours

because they were not getting an accurate reading and had to re-do - the tech

who did my evoked responses (test) was very upset over that - he said - of

course they got no response! The first was done at a local hospital - I bled all

over the place (it's not supposed to do that either) and the nurse kept telling

me the water was hot and all I felt was cold! OK The second was horroble and

the third was not as bad.. I still would not wish it on my best friend or

enemy! In general the test just showed definitively my sensory neuropathy and

they made no comment about anything other than that due to the muscles in my

legs. Instead of shrinking and wasting I have growth and very hard muscles. Go

figure that one! Some of the muscles are now beginning to shrink a little - I

lost an inch in my right calf - used to be 16 1/2 " not it is 15 1/2 " around! Yes

I measure them (just curious).

Owen here,

I've had EMGs twice once in 1974 and once last year. I mentioned to the doctor

doing the last EMG that it seemed a lot less painful and his response was that,

" Back then the tests were reality new and he told me that at that time they used

the needles over and over and the got dull. They the had to resharpen them them

selves. Now the use brand new one every time. I guess we do have small things

to

be thankful for. The last EMG I had was almost bearable. Still not one of my

favorite things.

Happy Trails

I have had it done three times by three different neurologist and it hurt

just as bad all three times, but the second time I was actually bruised from

every location and did not move for about a week. I was in a really bad spell

when it was done and the doctor was an insensitive jerk, I don't know if

either had anything to do with it.

Same here!! Even with all the new tools, it hurt worse each time that

I had it done, than the time before. My dad and daughter said the same

thing!
