Is Chronic Hepatitis B Being

Undertreated in the U.S.?

The Hepatitis B Foundation published a paper that addresses the important

question as to why are there fewer than 50,000 patients being prescribed

antivirals for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B when there are up to 2

Alcohol and Diabetes Predict Poor Outcomes in Hepatitis B

Older patients and men with chronic hepatitis B infection are more likely to

progress to liver cancer, decompensated cirrhosis, and liver-related death,

while Asian patients had lower progression rates, according to a Kaiser

Permanente study which Dr. Manos presented at the American Association

for the Study of Liver Diseases annual meeting in November. Diabetes and heavy

alcohol use also predicted poor outcomes. Learn More>>

The New York Times website features Patient Voices with videotaped first-person

accounts of living with different health issues. In December, three friends of

the Hepatitis B Foundation agreed to share their moving and inspiring stories

Hep B Free Philadelphia Hosts First Training Workshop

Hep B Free Philadelphia hosted its first training workshop on HBV Screening and

Vaccination that attracted more than 40 participants from community-based

organizations, public health professionals and both college and medical student

volunteer groups. The HBF helped train interested individuals to increase the

number of HBV screening and vaccination efforts in the city, which is the
