A hepatitis C workshop is being held in Cranbrook and focus on presenting

information about the different aspects of the disease and encouraging people to

get tested.

, the hepatitis C prevention and community development coordinator,

is organizing the event and hopes many people come out to get information and

listen to the speakers.

" The focus will be to have people decide to get tested, " he said. " People who

were involved in their younger day in intravenous drug use, for example.

Symptoms of hepatitis C are not very prominent and some people don't have any

symptoms. "

People of all ages are welcome to attend the event and will have all

the information on testing available.

The workshop will be held at the Prestige Inn on Monday, Feb. 21 from 8:30 a.m.

until 4:30 p.m. and admission is by donation at the door. People can choose to

attend the full day (lunch will be served) or decide to drop in at any time of

the day.

The workshop schedule is as follows: From 9:10 - 10 a.m. liver treatment clinic

nurse educator Leeya Brind'Amour will speak; from 10:20 - 11 a.m.

Sherstobitoff from ANKORS West Kootenay will speak about the role of ANKORS in

the community and education available; Deb Schmitz of the Pacific Hepatitis C

Network will talk about support and harm reduction; lunch will be served between

12 and 1 p.m.; nutritionist Dunsdon will talk about healthy eating with

hepatitis C from1 - 2:15 p.m.; Nation Member Barb Cote will talk about living

with hepatitis C from 2:15 - 2:45; at 3 p.m. Dr. Evan with Health Canada

will talk about different aspects of hepatitis C; will close the

workshop at 4:30 p.m. There will be coffee served during breaks between the

different speakers throughout the day.
