Guest guest
Do you have an AIDS foundation where you can get a case manager and who can provide living for you? I wish everything was like it is in Texas. I don't know what to tell you hun other than get someone you can trust that can help you get on your feet. If not get a bus ticket out of Detroit and go to a better state. Guest guest
Good advice Don. I am surprised you say Texas is such a good place for a PWA. Please tell me what is so good about the benefits in Texas. I heard the ADAP benefits in New York are the best in the country. In fact two guys I have met moved to New York from South Carolina. They both separately told me when their case manager heard they have AIDS the case manager gave them a one way bus ticket to New York. I do not know if I believe that, but two people separately have told me that is what happened to them. I know the ADAP formulary in New York is 4 pages long. I heard the formulary in Florida is a page and a half. That shows how many more drugs they cover in New York. There are also other very surprising benefits New York has that other states do not have. Guest guest
Unfortunately, the only thing you can get financial assistance for are licensed drugs or doctor visits/procedures. You have to pay for supplements out of your pocket. There are programs that offer low cost, but not free. There is one in NYC but I can't remember what it's called... Guest guest
ADAP in New York State covers multi Vitamins and some supplements like Omacor, which is licensed omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. New York City might have other supplemental assistance programs in addition to what the state offers but the cost of living in NYC is very high compared to the rest of the state. Guest guest
Hi Blair, not sure that moving is an option for you, so ill suggest a few other things to try to obtain or focus on obtaining. canned coconut milk is very accessible -(glass every day or as much as you like) their have been many reports of people dropping there viral load drastically and in some cases to undetectable in a short period of time (perhaps 30-90days) they always say an organic brand is better, even organic likely costs $3 or less. Coconut oil added to food, smoothies or even a few tablespoons daily(straight in your mouth) also works the same. I personally got bored of smoothies and had difficulty cooking dishes with coconut oil or milk that i liked (coconut rice is very good....use coconut milk instead of or along with water in the pot with the rice)....so I recently found a coconut milk drink in the organic store next to the cartons of regular milk....comes in vanilla and regular coconut (i drink a glass every day - ). the carton has a long fresh date and it may be priced at around $5 ....I go through 1-2 in a week. www.sodeliciousdairyfree.com coconut milk and oil contains lauric and capric acid for the immune system, amongst other things. For your tcells, probably the best thing for now, if you were to only afford one supplement on a regular basis would be selinium in my opinion.... organic brazil nuts are probably one of the best natural sources of selenium (a handfull of these nuts everyday)...but they can cost $10 per pound. The selenium supplement I have been using is " selenext " --- probably the best available --this is the site address on the bottle www.jarrow.com Advanced colloidal silver is also said to be remarkable for hiv ...only available online and around $24 per bottle + shipping....will last 4-6 weeks.... this one might be more controversial and you should read about it and make your own decision. So for anywhere from $25 monthly to $75 monthly you can be on a very, very good start to maintaining your health. Try your best to eat good and avoid junk. There is so much more available out there, but first get settled....start on some affordable regiman, and move forward...good luck!! > > Im a 27y/o guy in I live in Detroit. Guest guest
Diseases cannot stay in an alkaline environment. If a person can reach an alkaline state within their body I believe many illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, aids and many other diseases would not be making the pharmaceutical companies billions of dollars. There are machines on the market that create akaline water, however these machines sometimes cost up to almost 3 thousand dollars. I have a health advocate group that has a ionized machine at a very affordable price of only 200.00. Please contact me if you are interested in this new therapy. Guest guest
Yes when I was in Meds I got on what is called " The Atripla assist program " to get there I had to register with ADAP. It was a pretty easy process. I didn't have any trouble what so ever getting the help I needed here in Texas. My local AIDS foundation got me registered with white so I get all my labs for free and doctor visits. I didn't want to be on Atripla all my life and have to depend on those stupid meds all my life. I knew that years from now for what ever reason they could reject me or funding can end. By then I know if I stop meds and can't afford them I'd be fucked! The foundation here has a shelters and have recently bought a nice story house for homeless AIDS patients. So Texas isn't a bad place to be HIV positive. Friends house here, shelter there. Needless to say that my my financies are limited very limited. I listen to the supplements and and natural stuff that you guys are taking and I want to start things like that. I have read the stories and even did some of my own research. I find them to be accurate. I have health insurance with the state. Will my insurance cover some of this stuff if I asked my doctor for a script. Ive been off my meds since Aug.2009. I havent been taking anything just waiting to get sick.Im scared I dont know what to do and dont want the meds is there anything that a person like myself can do to stay healthy on a limited income. Guest guest
Hi all, I did 8 months of the awful stuff and there is hope. I am still around 2 years later just get tired a lot and a lot of little skin problems and aches occasionally but I try to focus on what I still can do instead of what I cant. That helps a lot is my attitude. I do take milk thistle and lemon water. I don’t eat healthy I have two little boys and I am on the go all the time. Fatigue I do get but when I do I just put my head on the pillow for a little while and it gets better. September 12th I am to start on this new medication they have my blood counts have been so crazy. I don’t drink anymore or do any type of chemical. I do take thyroid meds and a blood pressure pill and a bunch of vitamins. I am choosing to focus on the good things in my life. It is to short to cry over the things we can not change. My husband lost his job last week. I am not dwelling on it I am just glad to have his company and help at the house for a change. I hope everyone reflects on the things they have today rather than giving this illness any headway to keep you sad and down. I am a 56 year old female with Genotype 1A. Two years ago I was diagnosed with cirrhosis, stage IV. I thought that was the end. But after stage IV there are 3 more " stages " ...A, B, C . I am still A according to a test they do called a MELD score. This is how they determine if you need to be on transplant list. When I get to B I will go on the list. If I get to C ...well that is when time is of the essence. I get tested every 6 months along with ultrasound to rule out liver cancer. I also have an endoscopy once a year to rule out esophageal varices. I am very fatigued but do have a good day here and there. I am out of work on disability and at 56 I must say its a very BORING time in my life. Sending healing hugs to all in this group...never give up hope!
