Guest guest
Please tell us after the trip how it went - I have to fly soon as well and am not looking forward to AFO removal! The walker with the seat looks better and better! Now for my husband to get over the embarassment of the walker! martha Mari <thatgirl@...> wrote: Tomorrow morning I am flying for the first time since shoe removal was required at check-in security. For me this means taking off my AFO's as well. Should be interesting and more time consuming than I'd like. Guest guest
Mari, Although I do not wear AFO's I do fly frequently so perhaps I can help. I have flown about 20 times since 9-11-01. Only once have I had to remove my shoes. It also happened to be the first time in my life I was the first person in line to board the aircraft. Not everyone has to remove their shoes, there is a coding on your boarding pass that alerts the airline personell to physically examine your shoes and any carry on luggage you have. It is totally random. Take advantage of pre-boarding and tell the airline attendants about your AFO's as they may attract attention. By pre-boarding you will avoid holding up the line and drawing attention to yourself. Be sure to give yourself plenty of extra time at the airport, flying is stressful enough without having to rush. Most of all, enjoy your flight.
