Guest guest
..I have had numbness in that same area since my surgery 6 years ago..It s always been there and they tell me after testing it was done because nerves were damaged during my surgery..Jill -- Numbness question I have had numbness in my back since surgery. On Tuesday I was experiencing a higher than normal level of pain, all I could do was lay in bed crying, even with the pain medication. I noticed on Wednesday that I have numbness in an area that has never been numb before. It runs from the center of my back, about 4 inches above the waist band of my pants down into my right hip, stretching toward the front as well. I have never had anything like this happen before. It is not completely numb, but there is a definite loss of sensation. My pants rubbing that area is causing me discomfort. I called my doctor who always says I have to come in, but I have no heath insurance and at this time no money. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen? It was weird too because my pain is not normally in that area either. Thanks, (TN)
Guest guest
Helo fellow Tennessean! I have numbness down my entire scar...and across and around the scar on my right hip. I'm only assuming that either the doctors cut some nerves...or re-routed them. I have osteoA in my spine now (of course I'm 24 years post surgery) and sometimes when my husband rubs my back for relief...or because I ask sweetly *blink*....it feels as if his hand comes up over the scar and back down on the other side...like he stops and starts on the other side which I know he doesn't do. He's a medical guy, scars don't bother him. Here's a hint of light for we TNs ...I just heard on the news....those who were kicked outta TNCare....they've found enough budget to bring a few back so you might want to go to www.wbir.com and check and see if they have the story up and then contact your county's HR dept. and your worker. Good luck to you....I've never experienced pain with my back post operative other than the OsteoA....The thing that hurt the worse, was the moraphine shots under the skin for " pain " --SubQ they call it; (this was before med pumps) Again, good luck to you....please call your doctor back and see if they can set you up on some sort of payment plan....I'm almost certain they would help you. Any GOOD doctor who takes his Oath seriously....would do so. But this is JMHO.... *Soft HUGS and prayers* Cyn from East TN makeyellow@... wrote: I have had numbness in my back since surgery. Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry you are in pain.. (I can relate) - I do not think I have had exactly what you are describing, but can you check with another doctor in the area? I know my PCP doctor will give samples of medicine to his patients when he can to help defray some of the costs... Perhaps there will be someone who can chime in about what to do when you do not have insurance... I wish I could be more help... Guest guest
I have had quite a few surgeries in my back and none like that. I have numbness but to the point that I could not feel the pain if it were there and thats between my shoulders. All of my lower back surgeries no numbness at all, just pain. So if I were you I would goto the DR. I don't know where you live but in MI. you could get on medicade after sugery and your not working. I would check into that at your welfare office. If you have to much $$ they may be able to help part way. Also, the hospitals have program you can get into, so you would hjust have to goto there DR's or your Dr's hospital. Hope things get better for you soon, Troy makeyellow@... wrote: I have had numbness in my back since surgery. Guest guest
Hi , I've always had some numbness, but I'm not sure it's what you described. Generally, I don't feel numb, but if a hand or material, like a very soft wipe with a towel, brushes my lower back, it feels really weird, like a combination of pain and numbness. If the same area is touched not so softly, it doesn't hurt or feel numb at all. If a doc presses on it, it just hurts, but doesn't feel numb. Like I said, weird. I don't think there's anything " wrong " with me . I think it's just a result of this kind of surgery. Of course, I don't know if it's the same or even similar to what you are experiencing, but I can tell you only that my lower back has sensations and lack of sensations that it never had before surgery. Guest guest
DO any of you deal with numbness and if so, is there anything that helps make it better? My son has 3 spinal tumors. One at the T4-5 level which is stable and doesn't seem to be causing problems. He also has two tumors at the 5-S1 level (caudia equina area) in the lower spine. The tumors are potentially growing. The radiologist says they are but the contrast leaks so it it hard to tell for sure. We will rescan next month to check. Isaac hasn't had any new symptoms except he sometimes complains that his legs are numb or feel like they do when you sit on a foot and it falls asleep. Hehas actually said they fell that way even when he doesn't sit on them. This doesn't seem to be a constant thing so I don't know if it is because of the tumors or not. We were told to watch out for leg weakness, numbness, incontenince or parlysis (duh! I don't think we could miss that one!). The doctors know about the nmbness and it concerns them but we will still wait until mid-march to scan since it does't seem to be a constant thing. Isaac does already have weakness in his leg due to a stroke during brain surgery and has incontinenc at night (due to the stroke too I assume since it started at the same time). Of course the spinal tumors were discovered at the same time as that surgery so it could be from that too. Anyway...no new symptoms except for the numbness/feeling like his foot/leg is asleep. Do any of you deal with numbness? How do you deal with it? I am afraid it is going to make him more likely to fall since his balance isn't that great anyway? Any suggestions? , Mom to Isaac who is 12 years old
Guest guest
, Dumbness is pretty common unfortunately. It is a result I guess of something pressing on a nerve.. I get tingling sensations but have not had much numbness to speak of.. Just a little bit on my right hand.. I am so sorry to hear about your son.. I hope they will be able to get him well.. Medical improvements are very common these days so there is always hope : ) Tom In a message dated 2/21/2011 9:39:47 A.M. Guest guest
I only have sciatic pain in my legs but I do have numbness in my hands and arms due to stenosis and arthritis in my cervical spine. It comes and goes and using my hands and arms while doing some tasks will bring it on right away. Doctors have told me if the numbness becomes more constant I need to have this looked into because this could signal the chance of permanent nerve damage. I would imagine your son's doctors are concerned about permanent nerve damage as well. Wish your son didn't have all this mess to deal with, so much for a child to handle. Not to mention the worry for you. See if your son can recall anything he's doing that causes the numbness and tingling and keep a journal of it for the doctors. You might notice a trend as well.
