Guest guest
Joyce, Thanks for sharing you experience with your doctor. I am interested in what you had to say regarding the Bowflex Machine. I have seen it on TV, but I wasn't sure whether I would have the strength to use it. I purchased a mini-stepper and I use it; I'm trying to strengthen my upper thigh muscles. When I first started using the stepper, I could hardly do 10-20 repetitions. Now, I am up to 100, so it just takes time. I would also like to commend you attitude: " I don't think it will always be easy, so I am glad I have this site for support and advice! " Keep up the exercise.

I have seen it on TV, but I wasn't sure whether I would have the strength to use it. I thought that rowing on it would be aerobic exercise that I could do, but my arms pooped out before my heart even noticed I was doing anything! So I went to look for some no impact aerobic exercise video and came home with a program called " Pilates " which is mat exercises instead of jumping around on contorted feet that don't want to walk, much less jump around! Unfortunately today has been a bad day so I'm not even going to attempt it right now. But about the Bowflex machine...the smallest amount of weight is 5lbs and it goes up in increments of 5 lbs after that, totally your preference. The basic Bowflex is fitted for up to 100lbs, and people can buy more weight if they want. I use 20lbs for biceps, rowing, bench press, 40 for my thighs, 10 for my hamstrings, and deltoids. There are tons of different exercises you can do with the machine and they are all spelled out in the info booklet that comes with it. I have always read that for strength maintenance go with lower weight and more repetitions, and for CMTers to stop when the muscles BEGIN to burn. The Bowflex has been the one machine I always go back to, and I cancelled my health club membership and used the monthly fee to pay for my Bowflex--they have finance plans! You can email me privately with specific questions if you want. I'm imjerce@... Joyce
