Guest guest
Martha just reminded me of what happened on my travel to Mexico recently. My family was waiting to board the plane where I live and they are so careful checking everyone now that this is what happened to me. The jacket I was wearing had alot of metal type sequins on it and the detector went off. Some of the guards/airline personnel came over to me and I literally had to be searched. When some female attendant felt my splints under my pants (they were not sure what they were all they knew is they were very hard) they had to have someone else come over and literally search me/and my splints to make sure just what was underneath and if I was carrying anything inside the splints...This was quite interesting for sure. I bet they don't run into this too often.... I don't really think I need one for everyday but in an airport, etc. it might not be a bad idea. What are others thoughts on this? I wear AFO's that mostly stay hidden under pants, skirts, etc. so i don't get the Oh she's handicapped looks (good or bad). I think I would like the support of a either these walkers with the seat and brakes or at the very least a cane to emphasize the point a bit - I was questioned as to why I needed to preboard - I just pointed to the wrist braces and the leg braces and the flight attendant said - " oh, I'm sorry but people try all the time to do get preboarding priviledges " . My husband was embarrassed but I thought it my " right " to at least not wait in the looonng line!
