Guest guest
I get pain in the knees in the same location when I walk too much. For me it's because I keep my knees 'locked' (hyperextend) when I step down, so there's a lot of pressure being put at the back of the knee. I wear AFO's that help to minimize the stress. I just received my AFO for my left foot yesterday(already have one for the right a year ago). Today while I was wearing it for a while I began to have this pain behind my knee on the inner side, which I've never had before. And the first few steps I take with the AFO on, I seem to be hyperextending my knee, but then I compensate for it by " rocking " my foot forward off the toe of the AFO. It's too much work! So I took it off, and made an appointment Monday to have the AFO looked at. I think it is tilting my leg back a little, causing the hyperextension of the knee. Will post my results on Monday! Guest guest
Bill,  I think I'd call the surgeon first, to see if other patients have experienced this sciatic pain and what he's done to help them.  If it's nerves, there is medication, unless you want to pursue a more holistic approach. I take Gabapentin (Neurontin) for my nerve pain and it certainly helps.  I have had pain behind the knee, I'm only 3 months out, so I'm guessing I still have a ways to go. However, I do intend to ask PT about it tomorrow. If they have anything to offer, I'll pop in and let you know.  Lynn LTHR Oct 09 RTKR Mar 11  Life itself is the proper binge. - Child  Visit my art blog: http://adreamseyeview.blogspot.com/ From: wsingham2 <wsingham2@...> Joint Replacement Sent: Tuesday, July 12, 2011 10:42 AM Subject: Pain Behind Knee Thanks for the replies everyone ……. More info in my back-off-knee-light-ups:…….The Feb `11 surgery and therapy went well, then an old sciatic issue emerged. For years I've had a rare sciatic issue that would go away for months. However, toward the end of PT, the old butt-down-the-leg sciatic came back. The surgeon and therapist were sure they could resolve this common ailment, so a month of add'l PT began. At the end of that month, the discomfort had moved from the butt and thigh to the back of the knee, and remains there! The Medicare PT clock in FL ran out, and we headed to the North Woods of Minnesota for the summer, where Pts, medicine men, are not too handy……… I'm just sure that is nerves back there " zinging " . The most discomfort comes when the knee is bent back, just moderately. During PT, the knee would flex back with no discomfort, now all sorts of " wires light up back there " . Since competent PT's in FL were not able to eliminate the problem, I'm wondering if chiropractor, acupuncturist, or masseuse would help? If I can find one……… What do you think?  Bill, Limping-Thru-The-Woods  ------------------------------------
