I have just recently joined the group. Finally, something positive about

CMT disease and I am thrilled to be a part of this! If there is any way at all I

can help, don't hesitate to ask.

Yes, I have CMT. I turn 60 late this year and was diagnosed when I was about 6

by a series of orthopedists; later confirmed with the EMG/NCV testing.

Played some sports, in high school, but the feet would ache, so a well-meaning

coach and mentor before mentors were around, suggested the swim team. I agreed,

even won some competitions, strengthened the leg muscles and continued in

college and business school, more for the exercise and enjoyment then. I

still swim at the YMCA 3 days a week even now.

Was in the world of retail business for thousands of years as an executive,

am now retired; was offered a good deal so I grabbed it. With plenty of extra

time on my hands I travel off season and now my real love (besides my soul

mate of 22 years!) is learning how to paint - oils and acrylics. It brings me

such enjoyment. I have also reinvented my love for classical piano and am giving

my childhood lessons another go!

I am and always have been mostly CMT affected in my feet; standing in lines,

walking long distance, probably everyone here knows what I mean. I regularly go

once a week to a local alternative health center for a hour of foot massage and

reflexology. This seems to have very theraputic benefits all around.

I wear good quality Mephisto and/or Rockports with my pedorthortist's work

inside to absorb shock, unstable surfaces, etc.

It is nice to be here and be with 'up' people at . Forgot

to mention how I beat the lines at the supermarket, bank, post

office, etc. is two ways; either I shop " off hours " when stores

are not so crowded, or I take my little folding seat I use for

travel so I can sit and wait.
