Sounds like maybe a one to one with your CO might be needed. Certainly

the military doctors know of your situation, perhaps work OFF your feet

is needed. For me, even still, being on my feet for long periods will

create more damage. May I also suggest either in-shoe orthotics (this is

what I have) OR that you get properly evaluated for AFOs. I am not

certain of military rules these days and I am pleased you are serving,

however, your CMT health must come first; left neglected will get worse.

I would also encourage you to get a copy of the new CMT book - you can

find the link in bookmarks. This book, by a Dr. who also has CMT, will

present you with a total body picture of CMT, the different stages, what

can be done, etc. Has pictures too.

I have had CMT since childhood. There wasn't as much help then as there

was today. Yes, I do understand your devastation, I experienced it all

as a child. Yes, my life has had rough spots, however, good medical care

always became a priority, and I have had a great life all in all so far.

My CMT has not progressed much at all; and my nerves have reinnervated

themselves. I am not 'all better' and never will be, but I have learned

to manage my CMT, get help when I need it and make changes if I need

too.

Email me privately if you would like our working-revision CMT Fact Sheet

to give to your CO and doctors; then I encourage you to work with them

to find a treatment plan that works for you and then make positive

changes so your quality of life is better.
