Guest guest
Hi Edie... Huge thyroid...wow, I can't imagine what would cause that if your thyroid tests were normal last week. If I am remembering right it's a hyperthyoid that results in a goiter and if you are gaining weight, it hardly seems like your thyroid would suddenly have gone hyper. And seems to me someone in the group had a revolving door thyroid throughout threatment...hypo then hyper. Go figure... I know when I went off treatment I went through a lot of changes...it was almost like a withdrawal. Some people go off tx and nothing happens. This is the strangest drug in the world, I think. As to not sleeping well, try setting up a night time routine prior to going to bed if you can. Run yourself a nice tube....maybe with some lavendar essentail oil or a lavendar blend since lavendar is so relaxing (btw, it's also excellent for headaches....the essential oil is one of the few oils you can use undiluted on your skin and rubbing a drop into your temples can work miracles for a headache). Make a cuppa tea...preferably chamomile but definitely not standard caffeinated tea and not a mint tea either which has stimulating properties. Light a candle or some candles in the bathroon and just relax for a bit. Then go to bed. Might help...helps me most of the time. Guest guest
Seems like you are developing Thyroiditis related to Interferon and it subsequently leads to hypothyroidism. Have your TSH and anti-thyroid antibodies done , you may require thyroid replacement therapy. Dr Sharat Misra MD,DM,FACG Edie wrote: > Hello everyone: I am now about 6 weeks post treatment. Guest guest
Hello everyone: I will call the doctor just as soon as his office opens. Let's hope and pray it is hypothyroidism and now hyperthryroidism, and my weight gain is simply due to eating too much. I will let 'ya know what happens today if dr. has me come to see him. Guest guest
I have been feeling a lump in my throat...or a fullness for a few weeks now. I had been on iodoral (50mg) from September-Jan. This month I have been taking 25mg in the morning and 12.5mg at night. I have hashimotos. My tsh rose when I first started taking iodoral in sept; then taking vitamin C seemed to help bring it down. Now I have this fullness in my thyroid. Am I feeling a healing process? Certainly iodine wouldn't make my multinodular goiter worse? Or could it because I have hashimotos and not 'just' hypothyroidism? Everyone is raving about the all-new beta.
Guest guest
don't you associate enlarged thyroid with decreasing your dose? Guest guest
Yes, I had the same experience. My thyroid swelled up after taking 50 mg of iodoral for about 2 months. And it took about 3 to 4 days to feel normal again after stopping the iodoral. I have since dropped down to 12.5 mg twice a day (sometimes just once a day) and have not had any thyroid swellings. Guest guest
I had the same experience. My initial loading test came out somewhat low at 70%. After 6 weeks at 50mg of Lugol's Solution (8 drops), I noticed a swelling & stinging in my thyroid gland. I stopped for several days (4-5? not sure exactly) then resumed at 3 drops/week when I noticed the stinging was gone. I did that for several weeks & noticed my hands had gotten cold again. They were warm on a higher dose. I have very slowly worked my way back up again. I'm currently taking 6 drops/day (37.5mg). So far no return of swelling or stinging. My hands are warm again. I'm holding at this dose. One other change I made during this period was I stopped my thyroid glandulars when I began taking Westhroid on Jan 1. The glandulars also had kelp in them, providing 900mg of iodine per capsule. I was taking 3 a day. So I also eliminated the 2.7mg of iodine I had been receiving with that. I don't know if the glandular itself (not the iodine portion) would have a swelling/stinging effect on the thyroid that the straight hormone in Westhroid wouldn't. > > Yes, I had the same experience. Guest guest
You said your neck was stinging on the high iodine. My neck just on one side of my thyroid stings. It started before the iodine so I can't say it is that. It stops when I take Prilosec so I don't know what that has to do with it...any ideas? One side of my thyroid has a simple goiter, the other side is normal. The stinging is on the normal side. > > > > Yes, I had the same experience. Guest guest
I never did a loading test. Maybe that was dumb of me. I just jumped right very quickly. If I can get my doctor to agree to an ultrasound of my thyroid, I will try to get one ordered this week. It would be interesting to see if the iodine I was on helped my goiter and/or have one done to compare it pre- and post- iodoral. --- nccouponer <ccox22@...> wrote: > You said your neck was stinging on the high iodine. > My neck just on > one side of my thyroid stings. Guest guest
No. I started to decrease my dose AFTER feeling the fullness in my throat. I was also starting to experience frontal headaches on occasion and took those unusual headaches to be a sign of too much iodine. --- Gracia <circe@...> wrote: > don't you associate enlarged thyroid with decreasing > your dose? > Gracia > > > I have been feeling a lump in my throat...or a > fullness for a few weeks now. Guest guest
I'm starting to think that maybe I was nearing saturation for *me*?
