Guest guest
Dear friends, About one and a half weeks ago, my colleagues and I were running down the courthouse steps on our way to a quick lunch. My female colleague in front of me and in high heels, even though she was holding the rail, turned around to answer a question by my partner who was next to me. Then she lost her balance and started to fall; and yes, I was right behind her at a speed much too fast for me, and even though I tried to grab the rail, down and over I went, the two of us - all the way to the ground. It seemed sureal as I was falling, bump, bump, over and over, I felt my body being pulled in every direction. I don't know how many steps, just imagine a big courthouse with many steps. There must have been a hundred people seeing this and on their cells, as it seemed the Emergency Vehicles were there before I landed. As they asked me questions, I was doing a mental assessment of myself, which I do when I fall, which is not often at all. I was scratched and bloody, so off we went, 2 ambulences, 1 for us each. My colleague did break her foot and got a lecture about high heels. She is off work for 4 weeks. I had/have a mild concussion; it seems all those somersaults on the steps jostled my head; so I am off work for 2 weeks at least. Otherwise I am OK. I am in touch daily with my colleague who feels so guilty, and I assure her 'our tumble' was no one's fault. I sent her some flowers with a note as she was quite down. We are both now grateful it wasn't worse. I have received good care at home by the children especially. Drawing Daddy 'special pictures' and giving me kisses to make me feel better. The funny thing is they know my head was hurt and it does show so the children like to kiss my head to make me feel better fast. Now the funny part is that is exactly where my bald 'spot' is and those kisses really tickle! So, the recovery is well on its way, although other than a few quick notes to colleagues at work, this is the longest I have been at the computer and reading all the past messages. Perhaps the extra bed rest will be good for me and after such a fall will help me heal smoother. I too, want to commend you, Gretchen, on the scope and vision of this group.
