Guest guest
As you well know, anorexia and bulimia are obsessive compulsive behaviors. When I married the man of my dreams, I finally recovered from those devastating diseases. It was due to a great therapist and the support of my husband. I became depressed over the years due to family problems (my parents and his) and experienced severe postpartum depression after my son was born. Food has always been my coping mechanism. I began binging and tried to resort back to bulimia. It became so much harder as I got older. I amazed that your cousin is still successful at her attempts. I am only 32 but after being bulimic for 15 years, my body just wouldn't cooperate anymore. For one thing, my gag reflex was broken so to speak. I almost swallowed a toothbrush one time in college and it is a miracle I lived through it. Well I started packing on the weight. I guess you could say that I went from end of the spectrum to the other. Your cousin desperately needs help. She is a walking time bomb. I experienced severe chest pains and many times I thought I was going to have a heart attack. It will catch up with her. She is probably destroying her teeth and her esophagus may rupture. Someone needs to tell her that she will not be around to raise her son. I know what it is like to not want help. It is a disease that creates a lot of internal hostility. She is probably very angry and on the defensive. My heart goes out to her. I finally feel the freedom of being released from the bondage of food. It is the most beautiful gift anyone has given me. I don't have to worry about getting out of control. I had surgery July 31, 2002 and am down 36 lbs. as of today. I so appreciate your words of encouragement. It was a long, lonely road. Any form of an eating disorder can lead to severe depression and isolation. May God intervene and help your cousin. Blessings, Alisha
