Guest guest
Hi - Yes, I had a triple arthrodesis (fusion) in 1969 on my left ankle (flat foot)- at the time I was almost 13. For the 3 months I had a cast, then walking cast, I was good. But once out of the cast the recovery seemed very long and my calf seemed skinnier. I never ran again. Could not get the forward flex back at the ankle - had no physical therapy (later learned dr. didn't believe in it) - so I began hyperextending at the knee. I walked this way for 30 yrs with no pain, and now have pain infrequently. However, I'm sure my quad and perhaps trunk muscles weakened due to it. Later at about 35 yrs old I got an AFO for that leg (different dr. now). He and the orthotist said the triple arthro had 'worn out', that it wasn't correcting the foot much anymore. In 1987 I had a sub-arthrodesis with an iliac graft on the right side. There are metal pins in this one and they used a small piece of my iliac bone in there somewhere. Please let me know if you have any more questions.... Melody > > New member asks: > > > Has anyone else on the list had a triple arthrodesis? I would like to ask any members who have had triple arthrodesis to respond to 's post. My surgery was soft tissue...no fusion, so I cannot be of assistance. Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your experience. Could you tell me more about the sub-arthrodesis please. My fusions seem to be holding according to the doctors but I'm having ankle pain in my left foot. The doctor said that because of the fusion my ankle absorbs all of the stress when I walk. Is this what you experienced? I suspect I need something - they've told me I don't need AFO's at this point but this pain is really getting to me. I wear orthodics and they definitely help but it's like an ice pick in my ankle with every step and I'm trying to understand the cause and the solution. I am looking for a good Ortho who knows CMT but it's good to hear about the experience of others as well. Thank you! > > > New member asks: > > > > > > Has anyone else on the list had a triple arthrodesis?
